The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has arrested three footballers from the Malaysian Indian Football Association (MIFA) for allegedly taking bribes to fix the outcome of matches.

According to a source, the three players are believed to have received between RM10,000 and RM30,000 each from bookies to sell the matches in the Malaysian premier league.

“One of the suspects is a 29-year-old foreigner imported by MIFA, while the remaining two are local players aged 26 and 27.

“Initial investigations revealed the three suspects had raked in thousands of ringgit from match fixing, the past few years,” said the source.

The source did not discount more related arrests taking place soon.

MACC deputy chief commissioner Azam Baki confirmed the arrest and said the commission will not tolerate activities that puts the country's sporting reputation to shame.

He said MACC will continue to monitor football players and will not hesitate to act against them, if need be.
