An adviser of a property development company with the title "Datuk Seri" and his son, who has the 'Datuk' title, were ordered to be remanded for six days by the magistrate's court in George Town today for investigation into a land scandal involving the company.

The remand order against the 74-year-old 'Datuk Seri' and his 47-year-old son, who is the managing director of the company, was issued by magistrate Mohamad Amin Shahul Hamid following an application by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

They were arrested by MACC at about 7pm yesterday at the commission's office in Penang and Putrajaya, respectively.

According to a statement by MACC, the two family members were believed to have abused their position to sell land belonging to the company without going through stipulated procedures and at below the market price.

Their action was said to have caused a subsidiary of the company to suffer losses of millions of ringgit since the past few years.
