Home Ministry accepts Nanyang's apology

The Home Ministry will not take further action against Chinese-language daily Nanyang Siang Pau, after accepting the daily's explanation and apology following the show-cause letter over the cartoon depicting PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang and Dewan Rakyat speaker Pandikar Amin Mulia as monkeys.

However, Deputy Home Minister Nur Jazlan Mohamed warned the print media against publishing items that could threaten national order, and suggested that Nanyang Siang Pau takes action against those responsible for publishing the cartoon, including the artist.

It's Harapan or us, PAS tells Bersatu

Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) must choose between co-operating with PAS or with Pakatan Harapan, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang said.

Asked about Hadi's vitriolic remark against Harapan member DAP, PKR deputy president Azmin Ali urged all in the opposition to close ranks.

In a related matter, PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan opted out of the party's vice-presidency, citing confidence in current leadership.

Zakir wants to be quizzed in M'sia

Controversial Islamic preacher and Indian national Zakir Naik said he offered Indian authorities to quiz him in Malaysia, fearing torture in India but investigators there did not accept the offer. He is wanted in India for a non-bailable offence.

He also urged Muslim voters in Malaysia to choose the best of two evils, when faced with two choices at the polls - one of which party is lead by someone who does "bad things" but the party will not remove him.

In related development, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak tells voters to reject the opposition, which he said does no want Islamic development and for Malays to progress.
