The mother of tahfiz student Mohamad Thaqif Amin Mohd Gaddafi has rejected the autopsy finding that her son died of leptospirosis, a disease caused by exposure to rat urine. 

"There is no need to manipulate things. I feel very hurt. 

"The doctors could not tell us what bacteria had infected him from the day he was hospitalised, and now they tell us it's rat urine. 

"This doesn't make sense. I don't accept it," Free Malaysia Today reported Felda Wani Ahmad as saying. 

Thaqif, aged 11, died on April 26 after both his legs and his right arm were amputated, following suspected abuse at Madrasah Tahfiz al-Jauhar in Kampung Lukut, Kota Tinggi.

The school has denied the allegation that he was beaten using a rubber hose.

Thaqif’s remains were subsequently exhumed on May 18 for a sample from his leg to be retrieved for further investigation. 

His mother expressed the family’s regrets at having had to learn of the autopsy results through the media. 

"I have no problems having it (the autopsy results) announced to the media, but I am hurt that we were not informed. They (the authorities) knew to call us when they wanted to amputate his leg, arm and over other medical matters. 

"They could have at least called. I am hurt and shocked," she is quoted as saying. 

The family is seeking legal advice to get access to the boy's medical and autopsy reports, she said. 

Meanwhile, the tahfiz school principal Mohammad Afdhaluddin Ismail told Free Malaysia Today Thaqif had been admitted to hospital 21 days after he quit the school. 

"(It could be) he got infected today, developed symptoms two days later and then went to the hospital," he reportedly said.
