The technical trials on TM Net network system was the cause of the slowness in the internet surfing and downloading since Monday.

In an announcement on its website today, the telecommunication company said the trials was "part of the company's efforts to continuously upgrade its products and services".

"Regretfully, the trial exercise may have resulted in some customers experiencing some slowness in downloading and/or surfing the Internet," said the announcement.

It added that the company has taken "all the necessary steps to expedite the completion of the trial exercise".

Contacted, a costumer service officer at the call centre said at the moment TM Net is unable to identify when the system will be back to normal.

"We are still waiting an answer from our technical team when it will go back to normal," he said.

Meanwhile, Malaysiakini reader Seah Li Ling complained that she has encountered hitches when using the internet since last Saturday.

"They should inform customers and update them on what's happening. The users are in the dark all the time. When I call the customer service centre, I have to wait for quite a while before my call was entertained," she said.

Malaysiakini also encountered difficulty in uploading stories on Monday and yesterday as a result of TM Net trials and offered its apology "to our readers for the disruption in the delivery of news stories."

The service returned to normal at about 11 this morning.
