Fight corruption? Start with Matrade

How can companies with huge liabilities be wound up so easily under the watchful eyes of our regulators?

On Matrade compensation: 'Who is fooled?'

Joe Public: The government of the day should make an example out of Matrade by investigating thoroughly to find out the people responsible in the decision-making - from the award of the contract to a company without track record and at a higher price, the failure to monitor the work in progress, right up to the selling of the company to avoid paying compensation to the federal government.

As a layman who has to follow rules for small companies, I wonder how big projects and big companies with huge liabilities could be wound up so easily and fast, escaping attention from auditors, Companies Commission, Securities Commission, JKR, Miti, Finance Ministry and major creditors (especially the government in this case) until it is too late to recover any money.

It is more astounding when it involved a state government getting away from paying compensation to the federal government! Surely alarm bells must be ringing yet nobody in charge took the initiative.

Is there anything else that can surprise us?

ARP: This is how our government act on everything. Sloth!

On Act against me, Samy dares PAC

Luk: Samy Vellu is one of the few arrogant leaders left behind from Mahathir era. Some fell and some, like Rafidah Aziz, were outdone by their own master Dr Mahathir.

These leaders have been in power for too long and to borrow the words of Tun Musa, each of them "has great confidence in himself and his capabilities as he has not met anyone better than him". This is why Samy Vellu continue to challenge even the PAC even though the latter is merely carrying out their rightful duty for the betterment of the country.

They need to be eliminated.

On Pak Lah settles outstanding traffic fines

Hurrah: I rejoice that the most powerful man in the country, none other than the PM himself, now kena (got) the summons for the traffic offences that he purportedly committed. I rejoiced not because the PM deserves the summons and the publicity, none of us who also kena deserves the publicity (especially the police knocking on our doors).

I rejoice because something will be done now. In our country, it always take a high profile case to be publicised before action is taken. I rejoice because there is now another reason for the immediate formation of the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission.

On MIC - Who will it be?

Cheers: What `s the big deal about the MIC election?

I wonder whether it`s going to bring those candidate who are to lead the community to the greater heights. The community is getting screwed left, right and centre in all sort of forms. Their plight are mostly raised by the opposition parties, NGOs and other Barisan Nasional components.

We just have to accept the fact that those people are there just there to warm their seats. As the party president said, he needs a person who can bring a wind of change, to lift the community living standards and have the passion to help the society. Guess what, this is the very reason why the party was formed, but unfortunately this thing need to be told and reminded all this while.

I think the CWC members are there just to kill their time as most of them are quite well to do.

Anyway, the election is for the deputy president post - and God knows why the president is so hyper about this - it's a fight between Subra and Palanivel and not otherwise. After all, the current deputy has stated that he can work with the president ... so what`s the big deal?

If the president thinks that he can`t work with the deputy, do what Musa Hitam did when he had differences with Dr Mahathir - step down.

On Sukma's sodomy rap quashed, retrial set

Sadirah K: Having used the civil courts rather then the syariah courts on this issue, it is good that the issue has come up for a re-trial. This would be one way to vindicate those accused and it would be a great day for the courts to have Mahathir as a witness. The man who has done untold damage to our judiciary has to appear before it before the whole judiciary can be cleansed.

On Masing told to step down as PRS president

Sincere PBDS Supporter: Dr James Masing, what is happening to you now is exactly what you and your group did to the legitimate leaders of the former PBDS ... and if it hurts ... that was exactly what they felt.

I am very happy to see and hear that you are in this situation, and I hope that God is going to be as fair in getting the ROS to deregister your party - like they did to PBDS. Lastly, I hope this is a lesson to those who wants to do a Dr Masing-Sng trick, if you think you are very clever, think again ... there is always someone smarter than you.
