Dr Toh's frank comment on Dr Lim's resignation was bold and sincere. He is right in saying that Dr Lim is a man of principles and Mirzan is not. Dr Toh, you have my highest respect.

And Shahrir Samad, you are a rare breed in a sea of hostility. You are very civil in asking the EPU to sit down with Asli to compare notes. Ideally this should be the case and befitting a first-world mentality. Both parties should sit down and compare their methods in arriving at their respective figures. Then they should this public. Let Malaysians be the real judge. But it was not to be.

How could Asli have a chance to discuss their findings frankly and sincerely when it has been receiving threats from the likes of Muhyiddin Yassin, Khairy and others? There was no civilities at all from them. They brush aside the figures with nary a thought.

Sadly speaking, if our leadership continue with such mentality, I am afraid it will take another 100 years for our country to achieve developed status.

The Geeque: Asli expects the public to believe that the methodology employed was flawed. Yet another question that's probably boggling the minds of the public would be the qualifications of Mirzan to debunk the study.

Come on, we've had enough of lies and broken promises from the government! It's really refreshing that there was an independent body who dared stand up for the truth to enlighten millions of Malaysians. The hope was completely dashed when this so-called independent body succumbed to political pressures. Ironic, isn't it? The president of Asli is related to the one and only politician who birthed NEP into our nation.

Allen Ng: The intention of this is not to touch on the accuracy of the CPPS/EPU findings or to comment on anything relating to the appropriateness of NEP as a developmental economic policy. Rather, it is to question the competence of a professor in accountancy in our local university in simple arithmetic.

Why should the individual bumi equity be counted at about 20% of (total market capitalisation minus GLC market capitalisation)? The EPU's 20% clearly indicates the proportion of bumi equity in the entire Bursa Malaysia, not 20% of Bursa minus the GLCs. Taking the GLCs out doesn't avoid double counting, it merely causes you to interpret the 20% by EPU wrongly. Furthermore, the issue of double counting doesn't exist because, as reaffirmed by our PM, the 20% does not include the GLCs.

Think about it: the government says 20% of the entire corporate equity of the country is in the hand of the bumis. Dr Muhd Kamil says this is the same as 20% of the entire corporate equity of the country sans the GLCs share.

I could bring the argument further by questioning the logic of not considering a portion of the GLCs as bumis'. GLC is part of the government, and let's assume that the government of Malaysia is the government of the people of Malaysia, by the people and to the people. And the riches of the government is divided equally and fairly among all Malaysians, regardless of race, religion, creed or gender.

In this ideal world without racially-based policy, wouldn't that mean that approximately 60% of the GLCs be owned by the bumis, the rest non-bumis, according to demographic racial proportions? With that, we will have 42% bumi equity.

Anyway, three cheers for Dr Lim.

On Khairy to Asli: Damage done

BOLH: If KJ could not even respond intelligently to the former Health Minister, Chua Jui Meng, during a TV debate last year with regard to the NEP issue, what chances would he have against a giant like Lee Kuan Yew? Stay on the sidelines and learn from the masters.

On Takaful must retract 'no-Deepavali greeting'

Imam Muammar: This Mohd Fauzi Mustaffar is an embarrassment to Takaful, to the community and to the country. He should be sacked and fired!

I am a muslim scholar and I strongly object to this kind of petty, nonsensical attitude by this so-called head of syariah department. The Quran encourages people to "get to know one another" and wish others of different faiths good tidings, etc, etc. If they are celebrating their festival, we should wish them happiness - that is what is meant by 'Happy Deepavali', 'Merry Christmas' or whatever.

Is he so paranoid that one's faith in Islam will be affected if one wishes others well. Is his faith so fragile?

Anonymous: The grand Festival of Light has been celebrated by Hindus worldwide for over 5,000 years or more and by someone not wishing them 'Happy Deepavali' will not put the lights off on that day. In fact, Hindu Malaysians should be glad that they will not be receiving hypocritical greetings after all, and the ones who wish them well are the genuine people who understand what the festival is all about. Transcend it!

What Next: At least the Indonesian president has now apologised for the haze. I think it is one step better than someone who said we should also think about the oxygen that the Indonesian jungles gave us! So, what's next, Mr President? Another apology next year?

On Radzi prays for Dr M-Pak Lah meeting

Meng: If peace is what Radzi is after then it is unlikely to happen. Tun Mahathir is not the type to make peace with those he has fallen out with. He is a proud man. Besides there are many issues left open and hanging on both sides that have not been investigated or queried.

On Tun Mahathir's side, the sacking of the nation's top judges when Umno was in crisis, the naturalisation of millions of Sabahans codenamed 'Project M', the Tenaga scandal, the Bank Negara forex loss, the sacking and sham trial of Anwar Ibrahim, the use of EPF money to bail out Mahathir linked companies, etc.

On Pak Lah's side, Khairy's involvement in the political affairs of the nation, the sudden wealth of Kamaluddin and the success of Scomi, the oil-for-food scam, Khairy's involvement in the sale of Pantai, etc.

Tun Mahathir demanded answers and he got it. The rakyat demand answers too and we are still waiting Truth and justice is what we want, not peace.
