Mahathir, dont forget Burma too

Mahathir should make some effort to ensure this region is peaceful and democratic first and foremost. The transgression in Burma is telling in itself of the utter failure of Asean.

On Mahathir salutes Iraqi resistance

Amar AA: It's not surprising to note that the government shares Dr M's admiration for the Iraqi insurgents.

This Global Peace Forum/KL War Tribunal formation is nothing more than a congregation of pro-Baathist losers. I was appalled at the spitefulness of Dr M, in particular of his support for the Iraqi insurgents.

Doesn't Iraq have a legitimate process in place to democratically elect its leaders which was unfortunately boycotted by the minority Sunni group? Why can't the OIC and the Perdana Global Peace Organisation help to ensure that the legitimate government of Lebanon is unhindered by militant Hezbollah elements? Would not such initiatives be more sane and productive?

One wonders what constructive solution was forthcoming from this peace frum; all that was heard was anti-western rhetoric and the setting up of a war tribunal scarcely recognised anywhere. Mahatma Gandhi said 'you must be the change you wish to see in the world' and he proved it by gaining independence for India non-violently. Obviously Dr M does not subscribe to that principle for he wants to criminalise war but supports militant insurgents in the same breath.

It would also be refreshing if local initiatives such as the Perdana Global Peace Organisation put some effort to ensure this region is peaceful and democratic first and foremost. The transgression in Burma is telling in itself of the utter failure of Asean.

Besides this region, how about mentioning a thing or two about the vast war-torn, rebel infested African continent?

Towkay: Awww, come on. there is torture everywhere including Malaysia's police force. This is just mahathir's dog and pony show.

On Estate residents cry foul over dry taps

KSN: It is a very depressing and inhuman story to read. Similar tragedies have been happening to the poor Indians for the last 40 years or so from the fragmentation of estates. It is history. Where is the saviour of the Indian community, the great Dato Seri Samy Vellu.

Please convey a message to the people who had been displaced and discarded to vote for Samy, MIC and BN again and they will continue to 'enjoy' the luxuries these heartless parties have been providing all this while.

No one in this country should forget that the Indian community played a major role, through their sheer labour, thousands dying from malaria, etc, in developing our virgin jungle into rubber plantations, the beginning of our properity which we all enjoy today.

But those and their descendants who had contributed to this wealth with no skills and no help are left in the lurch. The country, and in particular the MIC and the BN, cannot be proud of that marginalisation. God help them.

On Dr M's last stand

Vincent Josef: For a minute there I thought that Dean Johns was losing his sting, not to mention his marbles, since his recent articles were meandering pieces, almost like how Dr M himself sometimes sounds. I am glad to see that the real Johns is alive and well and standing up with guns blazing, reminding us that the recent War Crimes Tribunal incredulously chaired by Mahathir of all persons was nothing more than the Great Helmsman indulging himself in his second childhood.

But perhaps Johns was a bit too strong on Dr M, he did not point out the good doctor's good side. For example, while hurling abuses at Blair, Bush, and Howard, Mahathir did not have a single unkind word to say about Singapore or Lee Kuan Yew. Now if that is not good neighbourliness, I don't know what is.

As everyone knows and so ably revealed by Utusan Malaysia's investigatorial reporting talents, Singapore, being envious of our success, has always been planning Malaysia's downfall - Dr M has informed us that the island rogue nation has bought enough sand from Johor to double its land area, leading Johor to experiencing its worse floods ever. Not only that, Singapore was so irresponsible and cynical in its land-grabbing that its efforts even led to floods in faraway Jakarta, which surely must have upset Mahathir more than the floods in JB.

On Shahrir defends NEP

A Heartful Malaysian: I refer to the article on Shahrir claiming that Malaysia is losing its competitive edge not because of NEP. Being a literate Malaysian, I would like to voice out some opinions and doubts:

First, NEP stresses on bumiputera equity participation of 30% which is exactly meant for transfer of wealth from other ethnic groups. Apparently, this policy brings no positive outcome to national productiveness.

Secondly, where in this earth that a talented group is so willing to pass technology or technical know-how to another whilst at the same time sharing their wealth? Exception happens only for charitable parties like Mother Teresa with generous heart to help those in need. Does one believe that foreign high-tech companies are so willing to invest, share wealth, transfer knowledge and in the end, let you grow to over-perform them.

Thirdly, what is the stimulus for bumiputera to grow and develop themselves whilst they know that they can "sapu" wealth through equity allocation?

On Police search PKR leader's office, home

BH Thong: Instead of looking for solution, they look for ways to punish the informers. They used OSA because they feel threaten personally and not the country is under treat. If we choose to report any corrupt practice by any government officers, then they would probably use OSA to put us behind the bar for leaking out the information.
