Ministry's request is really an order

Che Din Yusof, don't insult our intelligence. When you hold a sword of Damocles over someone's head, any request or suggestion is an order.

On Ministry: A request, not directive

HL Too: I can only say to Che Din Yusof of the Interior Security Ministry - please don't insult our intelligence. When you hold a sword of Damocles over someone's head, any request or suggestion is an order. Anybody with half a brain knows that.

Peter Ooi: This is again another stupid 'request' by the government to not believe in news from Internet portals or bloggers. Looks like we are so stupid that we cannot differentiate between fact and fiction. Or is it the other way round - that the ministers are so stupid that they think the public are like them.

Anyway, why are the authorities so scared of news from these sources. There is a Chinese saying that pure gold is not afraid to go through fire. So by the same token, if the ministers are like gold, no matter how they are treated they would still retain their 'purity'.

It is only when they are tainted with corruption and criminal deeds that they are scared to be exposed. But exposure of their wrong deeds in our print media is almost impossible. The public has to turn to the Internet for that.

On Ramli: Thank you for the support

BOLH: Besides the many pledged donations towards the legal fund for Ramli, I would also like to request malaysiakini readers and the public at large to be present at the courthouse to show our moral support for our 'wira'. Let us make it known to him that 'he'll never walk alone' during his time of trials and tribulations.

I have decided to up my donation from RM50 to RM100. No matter what, this is not only Ramli's cause, but ours too, and I am so glad Ramli turns out to be the positive catalyst in this anti-corruption drive. What an impetus!

On Subashini decision - constitution being rewritten

PT Tan: The court has unfortunately opened a Pandora's box that will lead to further polarisation of the country with its economic system already fragmented.

What recourse now that business between a Muslim and non-Muslim that turns sour and one part decides to seek protection under the syariah system and the other to seek redress under the civil law courts?

On Najib, explain the billions spent

VP: I speak for all Malaysians. We demand, as rightful citizens of this country, an explanation as to how the billions are being spent for NS training? We need a breakdown of all expenditures. The government is spending taxpayers money, our money, so we have a right to know.

Oh no, and do not tell me that it is also classified under the Official Secrets Act, because letting the public know might threaten national security. We know 'special people' got all the contracts at inflated prices, so if we question them, the nation will be threatened! What a laugh.

What about the special sports complex the government wants to build in the UK? Again, why this urgent need to get it done at all costs while our petrol, water, toll and electricity rates have all but gone up by almost 70 percent and with prices of all goods also going up. Do we actually have a government by the people, of the people, for the people or a set of goondas (hooligans or rowdies) set to rob the country at all cost, come what may.

While Barisan Nasional tries, with no success, to instill patriotism and racial integration via the NS, the very leaders openly exhibit their racial bias and non-patriotism with their behaviour, talk and way of life. Their actions speak louder than words.

We need leaders like Gandhi and Mandela. Can anyone tell me if any of our leaders can go anywhere near them in terms of stature? Not in this life!

On Thai people much more polite

Zazoo: The writer of 'Thai people are more polite' has a point - they do smile a lot but that said, I have yet to find immigration officials in Thailand any friendlier than the officers in any other country that I have visited. Let's hope the immigration officers in our country make some changes for Visit Malaysia Year 2007.
