Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi's children and their respective spouses are happy with his marriage to Jeanne Abdullah this Saturday.

His son-in-law Khairy Jamaluddin was quoted in Bernama as saying that the marriage was an event that will bring lots of meaning to the family.

"I, my wife, Nori, my brother-in-law and his wife are happy with the news. We fully support his (prime minister's) decision for the marriage.

"We have known auntie Jeanne for a long time and we are very close.

"He (prime minister) consulted all of us and we have given our blessing. It is going to be a simple wedding among family members," he said.

Meanwhile, the US ambassador to Malaysia Christopher J Lafleur also congratulated Abdullah on the wedding this Saturday.

"On behalf of the American people, I wish both the prime minister and Ms (Jeanne) Abdullah, as well as their families, all the best for a long and fulfilling future together. Tahniah (congratulations)," he told Bernama .

The Prime Minister's Office earlier today announced that Abdullah would marry Jeanne, 53, on Saturday.

The wedding will take place at the prime minister's official residence Seri Perdana and will be attended by close relatives.

Jeanne was born in Kuala Lumpur on July 29, 1953 and is the eldest of four siblings.

She has two daughters - Nadiah and Nadene - from her first marriage. Jeanne is the ex-wife of Endon's brother Osman Mahmud and has been a divorcee for the past 15 years.

Abdullah's wife, Endon Mahmood, died on Oct 20, 2005 after a long battle with breast cancer.

Abdullah, 67, has two children, son Kamaluddin and daughter Nori, from his marriage of 40 years with Endon.
