Hindu Rights Action Force (Hindraf) chairperson P Waythamoorthy has embarked on a campaign to lobby support from international leaders for the group's cause.

According to Hindraf legal advisor P Uthayakumar, Waythamoorthy is expected to meet Tamil Nadu chief minister M Karunanidhi and state opposition leader Selvi Jayalalitha.

Karunanidhi was among the first major international figure to speak out on the "sufferings and bad treatment" of Tamils in Malaysia.

This was conveyed to Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in a letter urging the premier to take immediate action, in view of the Malaysian government crackdown against Hindraf supporters.

On Nov 25, the government detained hundreds of Hindraf supporters during a massive rally against government discrimination and marginalisation against the community.

After Tamil Nadu, Waythamoorthy will proceed to New Dehli with the view of meeting Manmohan's private secretary and the Indian Foreign Minister.

Following this, Waythamoorthy is scheduled to proceed to London to meet the Malaysian desk officer at the Foreign and Commonwealth office of the British Foreign Ministry.

Thereafter, he would attempt to meet the private secretary to British Prime Minister Gordon Brown as well as 20 notable human rights groups based in London.

A formal complaint on the situation of the Malaysia Indian community would then be lodged at the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights.

Waythamoorthy's final stop will be in Washington where he would meet US State Department Malaysia desk officers, congresspersons, senators and human rights group.
