Vox Populi: Mahathir 'mudah lupa'

The way he answered most of the questions clearly shows that he's very evasive person and that he has a lot of things to hide.

On Dr M & Eusoff: Competing in selective amnesia?

Ben: This Mahathir guy should be made to account for his actions. He can’t say that he ‘doesn’t have to explain to anybody’ at a royal commission especially when a serious crime has been committed. What a recalcitrant. They should cite him for contempt. But then again, I presume the law only applies to the weak and the poor.

Onmumartin: I am terribly disgusted with our ex-PM for his very evasive response to the royal commission of inquiry. He doesn't seem to live up to his accountability of being an ex-PM and now a ‘Tun’.

He promised to cooperate with the commission of inquiry. But by the way he answers most of the questions, it clearly shows that he's very evasive person and that he has a lot of things to hide.

What does he mean by he ‘doesn't remember? Ask him whether he remembers he was the ex-PM? Don't tell me he is going to say, ‘I am not sure, I cannot remember’. Does he think that Malaysians are idiots or what? I might not have the title of ‘Tun’ but I am certainly not a ‘Nut’.

Nirmala Naidu: Its obvious Eusoff is lying. Too much of a coincidence. How can Lingam go to a foreign country without an itinerary? On a week-long trip, surely the tour company would have planned a whole itinerary. Who is Eusoff kidding? He is making a fool of himself .

Mohamed Sultan: What happened to the Legal Services Commission which used to appoint judges? Who abolished it? It should be resuscitated. The Great Dictator Mahathir meddled with Articles 121 and 131 and he amended almost all the articles that led to the collapse of the judiciary.

Maha also destroyed a number of judges. See the way Maha answered the commission - as he is not answerable to any body because he is still a dictator.

The present enquiry commission should recommend that the Legal Services Commission as it was originally when we got independence should be reinstated. Then all appointment of judges should be by the commission - not by the chief justice.

On Adnan: Lingam either mad or drunk

Mahendran Balakrishnan: I seriously believe the remark by the Tourism Minister is racial-stereotyped and shows his racist and narrow mindset. The fact that he used the word ‘drunk’ to describe VK Lingam, an Indian by ethnicity , is worrying as it is akin to the race- labeling, stereotyping mindset that our society grew up with.

While it is not shocking, it is still disappointing that a cabinet minister of the federal government, could say such a thing to describe another man.

On Ace student: MIC college cheated me

Nirmala Naidu: In light of this, it is mandatory for each student to personally contact the Malaysian Qualifications Agency for clarification on accreditation for the degrees they are pursuing. Do not trust any college.

If you have no e-mail then either fax or personally write to them. Don’t blame anyone. For such an intelligent boy, he failed to exercise his responsibility to himself. Perhaps those whom we place our trust in are always the ones deceiving us.

On Police taskforce formed for missing girl

Vince Chew: Why all the focus on missing girl Sharlinie? A more important question is what has the police have done to deal with the problem of missing children in Malaysia. I do not have the data on the total number of missing children in Malaysia but in the UK, with a population of 59 million, 77,000 children go missing every year.

I would like PDRM to make public the number of reported cases of missing children in Malaysia. I believe that there are thousands of missing children in Malaysia. Every missing child deserves the same attention that Sharlinie is getting.

On Religious tolerance not what it seems

Malaysian in Middle East: I am a non-Muslim Malaysian who is staying in one of the Muslim Middle East countries due to work purposes. I was very surprised when non-Muslims here (expats) use the words such as ‘Allah’, ‘Insya Allah’, ‘Asalaimualaikum’ etc not only to local Muslims but also among themselves. In fact, my son goes to a kindergarten where he learns Arabic language and is also taught the ‘Bismillah’ (the prayers).

I don't understand why in Malaysia, non-Muslims citizens are not even allowed to say the word ‘Allah’. Allah means God in Arabic language. Although I have only been here for more than a year, I learnt more about Islam than when I was in Malaysia where I was born and bred for more than 30 years.

I learnt why mosques are built with domes and the purpose of praying five times a day. Here the government holds ‘open days’ when non-Muslims are welcomed to visit mosques and explanations on Islam are given. I hope Malaysia will be more open when it comes to religion.
