vox populi big thumbnail Samy Vellu has to go one way or another. Let us start a petition and direct it to the PM. Imagine a hundred thousand Indians supporting such a petition .

On Indian votes will swing unless...

Christopher Yogaswaran: Samy Vellu has to go down one way or another. Let us all unite and start a petition and direct it to the PM. Let the content be about confessing our non-confidence and disrespect towards the MIC maestro Samy Vellu and the entire MIC. Let us start this soon to show them that they are in danger of our Makkal Power.

Imagine a hundred thousand Indians supporting such a petition. It will only further reveal the melodrama within the Malaysian government. Whether, PM fires him or not, at least we stand united to bring him down. Down with MIC and Samy and up with all Indians.

Ragunathan: It's quite alright for KP Samy to launch a tirade at S Samy Vellu. But one has to wonder what his agenda is - for the former MIC deputy Subramaniam to sneak into MIC and take the helm? That will be another disaster for the Indian community. We all happen to know how that will turn out to be.

Subra’s mishap with Koperasi Nesa should not be swept under the carpet. And Subra's attempt at giving a balanced view of Hindraf is at best pathetic. The man simply lacks the strength that Samy Vellu has. Don't get me wrong, Samy Vellu has to go. But we should never be fooled into giving Subra a 'chance' knowing his record. That will be rolling the dice again and playing with the lives of the Indian community.

Nithiyaavaani: After the success of the demo by Hindraf, more parties are giving more attention to the Indian issue in Malaysia including BN's component parties. Even the MIC leaders themselves. Should Samy Vellu resign?

Will the problems of the Indians be resolved? If Samy resigns won’t he be replaced by another pro-BN leader? BN is corrupted and the people have no hope with them. So its time to change the government in this election. Let the people talk - not the leaders.

Venugopal: There have been a lot of rumours that former MIC deputy president S Subramaniam is returning to politics and is soon to take the helm of MIC. The MIC does not need failed leaders like Subramaniam who warmed the deputy president's seat and enjoyed perks at the expense of the members.

Let us look budding leaders in and outside the party or top civil servants who can usher the community towards 2020 progressively. If Subra comes as a proxy for Umno, then things are not going to be better.

On Zip it, critics of MIC told

Nurul Aida Nasis: The MIC Federal Territory chief is the biggest political joke. He should remember he is not supposed to be where he is now. He came in last in the last CWC elections and was pushed into the bullock-cart at the last minute by Samy.

Now, you, Saravanan, want a seat for the coming elections but your record doesn’t qualify you to be candidate. Prove yourself as a saviour of the Indian. Walk with five-year old Vwaishhnnavi on Feb 16 to Parliament. Tell your mentor to release Indian leader held under ISA. Otherwise, stop claiming credit for work done by others and stop pointing fingers. You are a wrongly informed information chief.

Inthian: Firstly can MIC openly list what they have done, since they claim they are the sole representative for the Indians in this country? The MIC have been claiming of doing this and that..what is actually the "this and that". We call on the MIC to list them down.

Secondly, compared to the opposition MIC gets better funding and such the are supposed to upgrade the Tamils schools. The above argument has no basis.

On Hindraf leaders to contest in polls?

Mike: BN has not only failed the Indians, it has failed the entire nation. The vision of our Father of Modernisation (Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad) has not been followed. It is a failure.

Hindraf is not just for the Indians for it has opened the eyes of the Orang Asli, the Chinese and the Malays. We must remember one thing - if a minority like the Indians are already starting to make noise, it means that the majority is not far behind.

It is good that Hindraf has woken up Malaysians from all walks of life. Please don’t think Hindraf is just for the Indians. It is for everybody and through Hindraf all Malaysians will know their rights. This is what Hindraf is about.

On Seat talks: Show courage DAP, PAS

Mike Selva: Having read with dismay the squabbles between the opposition front, I can imagine the smirk on the face of our ruling overlords. Isn’t this exactly what they want?

This is the beginning. Extreme care must be taken to stand united to fight the common evil and not get carried away by internal quibbles. I am sure a majority of Malaysians are committed to setting right the things that have gone awfully wrong but we need to do it through a united front.

Let’s make this election one that truly goes down in history. I will stand behind the opposition front that shows it is willing to set aside its differences and work together.

We look to you, esteemed leaders of the opposition to bring about the winds of change but all we are hearing right now is self-centered flatulence.

On No 'gentleman's agreement' to quit: PM

The Saint: The ex-premier has started his mud-slinging once again. I am no great fan of Abdullah but criticising him with such seething remarks is not only uncivilised but also most unethical. If Umno members have any sense or pride, they should move a motion to expel Mahathir from the party.

Pak Lah might be a softy and his stand on the Hindraf issue is grossly unethical but if not for him the VK Lingam and Eusoff Chin issue would never have surfaced. With so many skeletons left behind in the closet by the great Mahathir, it will not be possible to clean up the system within a short period of time.

Especially with Mahathir's cronies and partners in crime like Samy Vellu, Rafidah Aziz and many others still surrounding the PM like sharks hungry for a kill.

Loyal Malaysian: It is too much to hope at this stage - a PM who's a non-Malay. But if the government will only free up its top administrative posts to meritocracy rather than 'kulitfication', that will already be an important step.

Michael Sun: I agree 100 percent. He is right: ‘There is no gentleman's agreement’ with Tun Dr Mahathir. In a gentleman's agreement, there must be two gentlemen agreeing on something. In this case, Abdullah is not a gentleman and therefore the agreement is not binding.

After enjoying the perks of office for four years, he is already too comfortable and wants more of the good life. If he cannot achieve anything in four years, can one expect him to achieve anything in zillion years? The rakyat have been working hard and Abdullah hardly working. Vote wisely.

On Changing the face of Batu Caves

Christopher Yogaswaran: In the midst of the marginalisation of our Indian community in our own homeland, I am wondering if this development project with a lot of money is a good choice for social investment. Is there any study revealing the costs and the benefits that are to be achieved? Have they been made public?

Obviously, a project like this would have a tremendous effect - be it positive or negative - on the society in the vicinity of Batu Caves and areas surrounding it. Have there been any consideration towards these aspects?

What about the initial environmental review and the Environment Impact Assessment report? The social cost of this project could be even more than the anticipated returns. Why not ask the needy people in the area if this is what they want? Or is there something else that’s more ‘worthy’ to do with all that money?

Subra: Changing the face of Batu Caves? Let us make sure that whatever project or park that is developed is not within the vicinity of the Batu Caves Temple. I'm sure our beloved Nadarajah will then use those places for one of many ‘collection’ points. Don’t allow him to do that.

Conflicting accounts of Rela raid on refugees

Bilqis Hijjas: In the end, it doesn't really matter if Rela set fire to the village or if a lamp was knocked over by a fleeing refugee. It is disgusting enough already that civilians are allowed to form vigilante groups to disrupt and destroy the lives of the most vulnerable people within our borders.
