The police have warned the public not to assemble outside Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar, Perak, this afternoon.

Stating that stern action would be taken against those who do, Perak police chief Zulkefli Abdullah said the public should not be influenced by text messages calling on the Malays to gather outside the palace.

He said no permit or application had been granted for any assembly, adding that action would also be taken against the organisers.

"Police will take action on those holding any assembly anywhere because it will lead to an undesireable outcome," he was quoted as saying by Bernama .

He was commenting on the spread of text messages calling on the Malays to a rally at Istana Iskandariah to protest against the DAP "for challenging Malay supremacy."

Stay calm

Perak police also advised the public to be calm and not be influenced by rumours that there were disturbances in several areas in the state after Saturday's general election.

State CID chief SAC II Ismail Yatim said police would take action against those who spread rumours, including through text messages, as this could endanger the peace and well-being of the people.

"The situation in the state is peaceful and under control and no disturbance has been reported," he told Bernama .

Ismail said the situation was normal all over Perak eventhough the new state government had yet to be formed following Saturday's election.

He said the stationing of police at the Perak Darul Ridzuan building and at the Menteri Besar's residence here was a normal procedure to ensure no untoward incident happened there before the new state government was formed.

Ismail said staff at the building were working as usual.

BN lost Perak to the opposition when it only garnered 28 state seats against the 31 won by the DAP, PKR and PAS coalition.
