The doctor who had first treated sodomy complainant Mohd Saiful Bukhari Azlan and found no signs of him being sodomised did not report back to work at Hospital Pusrawi as was expected today.

pusrawi security guard blocks media journalist fron hospital 040808 03 A check at the hospital this morning revealed that Dr Mohamed Osman Abdul Hamid, who has been on leave for two weeks, did not show up at the hospital located at Jalan Tun Razak, Kuala Lumpur.

According to officials at the hospital's emergency unit where Mohamed Osman was attached, the latter was not present and his name was also not on the duty roster.

They added that they had no clue when the doctor would report to work.

Reporters' efforts to obtain comment from the hospital's management and meet its medical director Kamaruddin Ahmad - seen at his office at the building's ninth floor - also proved futile.

Instead, shortly after reporters gathered outside Kamaruddin's office, security was called in to ask the group of journalists to leave the area. Some of the reporters had been waiting at the hospital since 8am.

I have been instructed to ask all of you to leave this place," the hospital's security head Mokhtar Khan insisted, despite requests to meet with the hospital's management.

Hospital Pusrawi general manager Wan Mahmood Wan Yaacob was not in his room at the time.

However, when spotted by several reporters about an hour later near the lobby, he said he had ‘no comment', even before reporters had a chance to ask him questions.

Hospital: Not sodomy-related test

Hospital Pusrawi and Mohamed Osman, a Burmese national, were thrust into the limelight in the wake of a leaked medical report of Saiful, a 23-year-old ex-aide to PKR leader Anwar Ibrahim.

The doctor examined Saiful four hours before he lodged a police report on June 28 claiming that he was sodomised by Anwar.

He also alleged that he was assaulted when a piece of plastic was forcibly inserted into his anus.

According to a copy of the two-page medical report, which was leaked to Malaysiakini and a number of websites, the doctor had found no signs of sodomy on Saiful.

However, Hospital Pusrawi authorities later argued that Mohamed Osman's examination was not sodomy-related despite conceding that the leaked report looked "genuine".

They also said the doctor, who went on leave after coming under tremendous pressure due to police interrogation, was expected to report to work today.

Despite the hospital's contention that the medical examination on Saiful was not sodomy-related, medical experts had argued that the report was still relevant to the controversial case.
