VoxPop: Shahrizat's feeble, desperate 'jihad'

vox populi big thumbnail ‘But she should have realised that her action is the last thing a Muslim should do. She does not understand the concept of jihad , otherwise she would never dare say something like this.'

On Shahrizat declares 'jihad' against PKR leader

Hypocrite-Watcher: Have we heard well? Is this report correct - Shahrizat declares jihad against Anwar Ibrahim? This is playing with religion in a serious way. Islam is being truly corrupted by Umno people.

Does an ultra-liberal minister, whose personal lifestyle we should not expose here, have any idea what she is saying? I guess not. I guess she has never read any serious Islamic material.

For if she had, she would have realised that her action is the last thing a Muslim should do. I bet Shahrizat does not even understand the concept of jihad , otherwise she would never dare say something like this.

Is it that she cannot admit her humiliating defeat to a political novice in her ‘own' constituency, and now she is jumping on a jihad bandwagon against her victor's father?

My advice to Shahrizat - keep quiet, otherwise your family lifestyle may come into the open. Then we shall know the true hypocrite.

Elsie Goh Siew Khim:

I am not surprised to learn that Shahrizat declared jihad or ‘holy war' to prevent Anwar Ibrahim from returning to parliament.

What really surprised me was the openness that the BN-Umno regime uses to go for an all-out, at-all-costs effort to keep Anwar from parliament. This openness is clearly an act of desperation shown by the leaders of the BN-Umno regime.

This is what I think the jihad strategy that the desperate BN-Umno regime is:

1. Use the sodomy scandal against Anwar from the various levels of the police, AG, PP and the court.

2. Employ high-powered vote rigging and million-ringgit bribes and money politics at Permatang Pauh.

3. If, despite the high-power vote rigging and bribes, Anwar still wins, then every effort will be thrown in to find him guilty of the sodomy charge.

He will be jailed for a long time, maybe a maximum sentence of 20 years, and his political career will be destroyed.

This is the jihad of the BN-Umno regime. We are dealing with perverted, desperate human beings with criminal minds.

Malaysian-Thru-And-Thru:

Shahrizat must have been eating and merry-making so much that she could not see what was happening in her backyard.

From the time of Mahathir until the time of Abdullah, the currency exchange rate has plummeted from its glorious RM3.90 to the British pound to a painful RM6.90 to the pound. The same can be said for the Singapore dollar-RM currency exchange rates.

The country has witnessed the quality of the country's education system go from bad to worse to the point where thousands of university graduates languish in morbid unemployment.

Big time investors that used to do the mills at one time in this country have all moved out due to a loss of confidence in the competency of the present government. Chunks of EPF savings have been invested (at a loss) in useless investment portfolios.

Roads that had never seen tolls in the 80s now have toll booths springing up everywhere and have toll rates rising every year (for illogical reasons).

It used to be safe in the 80s to walk the distance to your neighbour's house (a couple of blocks down) without being hit by snatch thieves. Now, it's virtually impossible to do so, even in broad daylight in a busy street.

The only people who I see sitting up on their thrones, busily milking the citizens of this country dry, are people like Shahrizat and BN cronies who have the police at their disposal for their whims and fancies with not a care in the world for what happens to the ordinary citizens.

So Shahrizat, take my two cents worth of advice and go fly your golden kites in some posh area like Langkawi and let someone like Anwar take the government reins of this country.

I would rather take the risk of hoping for a new dawn in Malaysia than stay and rot with this present corrupted BN government.

G-man:

I suppose Madam Shahrizat is still in denial that she suffered a crushing defeat to a political novice in the recent general elections. And to think that some newspapers still find her statements and remarks worthy to be printed.

She is a political has-been whose attempt at a comeback would prove nothing but futile. I doubt even the autocratic ways of how the Wanita Umno is run would be able to save this poor excuse for a politician who speaks before thinking.

Her latest statement on jihad against the PKR leader is at best a feeble attempt to pander to the masters in Umno.

On 'Racist' teacher deserves sterner lesson

OD: Who is this teacher who is so powerful that she cannot only escape punishment, but unbelievably be let off with a better position? All of this, despite police reports lodged for what are clearly seditious statements.

I was waiting to hear that she had been arrested, not under the ISA, (I am against that law) but under the Sedition Act and a lot of other laws. This lady deserves jail time for what she did. Instead, she has been sent to ‘educate' our smartest students.

If she is going to be let off scot free, then I would like the best investigative journalist to investigate her background and tell us who she is.

There's no need to hide her identity, as it appears she has done nothing wrong. I also thank the authorities for showing other teachers how to get transfers to better schools.

I am going to ask a teacher I know to utter derogatory remarks against another race at her school. Since she is an Indian, she will have to direct her remarks at another race.

When she does that, please make sure that she gets exactly the same treatment. There is a smart school near her house, too.

Concerned: I am thoroughly shocked and disgusted at the supposed 'punishment' meted out to this racist teacher. This does not amount to even a slap on the wrist! I thought that she would be sacked, demoted or transferred out to another state far from her own state.

Come on - in this more enlightened time, this kind of thing deserves the sternest possible action from the government. This only leads me to believe that BN has no intention at all to promote multiracialism, apart from a bit of lip service here and there.

Isn't this typical of Umno-style Malay supremacy, which now seems to be deeply ingrained in the civil service? The sheer arrogance is beyond belief.

We Malaysians who actually love this country must raise a hue and cry about this issue and not stop protesting until the teacher is properly dealt with.

Jegatheeswaran: This is why more and more of the educated and affluent group in society are losing faith in the education system. For one, the system is stuck in the Industrial Age where human personalities are programmed to produce standardised output for the job market.

The second fact is that the people who we parents would entrust to nurture and develop our children's character are now messing up their personal character.

How the heck are we going to create national unity when we have teachers who demonstrate their foolish narrow mindset in the classroom?

I am a parent who has given up on our education system as far as our children gaining knowledge and developing a character are concerned. That is why we have resorted to home schooling. Stories like this simply reaffirm our decision.

Good luck, Malaysia. Malaysia Boleh.

Dorai Dubai: In any custom, teachers are well respected and are treated as a ‘guru'. Not because of the education knowledge itself but because a teacher will groom a child to be worthy person in society.

If a teacher is racist, how would the children turn out to be then. More racist? The education ministry is making a mockery of itself by transferring this teacher to another school as they are simply shifting the problem from one school to another.

Do you think the teacher would change her behavior in a new school? What assurance can the ministry provide that the same incident will not occur again?

I say temporarily suspend her or send her back to the training college on unpaid leave for three months. The financial pinch will eventually make her realise her mistake.

On MPs should crossover for good of electorate

Jennie: The writer has a great sense of humour during these tumultuous times. You don't have to be very intelligent to know what is happening to the ship that he is referring to - I, too, see it going in that direction.

I advise all God-fearing people to pray for peace, and to just wait and watch patiently for the good that will unfold. Only good can triumph over evil.

Though I fear the unseen and the possibilities, I hope the realities are better than what I anticipate.

God bless all you brave Malaysians.

YSM:

All those constituencies that have BN MPs, let's petition them to crossover.

Let's tell them by flooding their mailboxes and mobile phones that we want them to leave Barisan Nasional and join Pakatan Rakyat come Sept16.

We want change for the better.

On Anwar slammed over 'back door' bid for Putrajaya

Justice Watch: I just wanted to point out that the ‘timing' of Dr Chandra's observation - as a critic, political scientist, or whatever he's known for - on the above topic is poor.

With all due respect, Dr Chandra's views and input, like many others, were well said. However, beginning with this time on the ‘back-door' regarding Anwar, I began to question his true motives, other than his ‘just' world view

The simple question is, why now? Can't Dr Chandra's views be used as ‘post-mortem', rather than the ‘preview' before Anwar actually becomes PM?

Here we are, trying to move forward despite the many obstacles set up by the PR's opposition, and along comes this fellow telling the rakyat the ‘ideal' way of becoming the government.

Dr Chandra's views are commendable, even though they might not all be correct, but right now, he should just keep them to himself until the new government is set up.

If you cannot bear this political stuff, it's understandable. That's why you belong to the ‘critic' and ‘scientist' genres. We still respect your views, but put it to good use here in your homeland.

Your input is equally important - however, if it's not helping the rakyat , especially PR goals, then just be quiet and wait for your turn. Otherwise, you are no different from everyone else you try to criticise.

On Hamid Albar, BN's chief spin doctor

Meng: Now it has become clear to all Malaysians as to why we lost Pulau Batu Puteh to Singapore and why we continue to suffer humiliation among our neighbours. With a former Foreign Minister like Syed Hamid Albar, it's amazing we haven't lost more.

With silly statements that show his bias, I am now a little embarrassed that he represented Malaysia in all those foreign conventions as foreign minister. His zeal in protecting Saiful shows the government's bias in the case.

Furthermore, he says that Saiful was not charged because he is the victim and needs to be protected. How does he know that Anwar is not the victim, as the police now claim that it was consensual?

As they pursue this case, the BN government is digging a hole for themselves. We all hope it's a six-foot deep hole.

On Why transfer? Let Komathy hear Anwar's case

JT: The architects of public opinion centres should find out from the public whether they want Judge Komathy Suppiah to be the hearing judge for DSAI's sodomy case, since the PM, DPM, home minister, police and judiciary vehemently swear that they practise professionalism, fair justice and total obedience to the rules of law.

Legal Eagle:

After the charge has been read in court and deemed to be consensual, I think it's a straightforward case of disqualifying Saiful as either a victim or witness.

Saiful is certainly not a victim or a witness in accordance with the English and legal definitions of the words.

As such, the case will fall apart and what we have suspected all along will become common knowledge, ie. Anwar has been framed.
