DNA bill: 'They treat us like lab mice'

On DNA Bill tabled for second reading

Oppressed: Something smells fishy. Everything having to do with the tabling of the bill smells fishy.

Since the start of Anwar's unjustified sodomy charge, the DNA issue has been highly suspicious and, I believe, politically-motivated.

The opposition parties - including the Bar Council and related civil society groups with the necessary authority - should stand together to forcefully reject this obvious violation of the rule of law.

If the bill is successfully passed, the police and BN-led government will have a field day, putting every person deemed ‘suspicious' - or rather, persons who dare to question BN's administration - away.

Obviously, the first victim would be Anwar Ibrahim. How could we have ever let our judicial system fall into such rot?

Why do we allow characters like Syed Hamid Albar to call the shots in treating the people of Malaysia like mice locked in laboratory cages?

Please stand to denounce the bill. Don't let it even see the light of day.

Om Prakash:

I am strongly against the bill to force anyone to give DNA samples for any criminal investigations or legal matter.

Although DNA analysis has become a modern day tool for various reasons Malaysia is not ready to implement this modern tool primarily because the authorities cannot guarantee impartiality and cannot guarantee procedural transparency as well as cannot guarantee protection of samples, records and samples.

Malaysia can only restore faith in DNA usage for criminal investigations and legal matters if complete faith in the police, judiciary and AG's chambers has been earned through the complete dismantling of racial, religious and partisan policies of the government to divide and rule its people.

Given the record of investigative inefficiency and political interference as perceived largely by the public, the DNA bill cannot be allowed to be passed in Parliament.

The onus must be on those who want to freely give their DNA sample to prove their innocence. Let us not be threatened with another draconian law like the ISA for political and law- enforcement expediency.

We are not ready to just trust anybody yet.

On PKR leader denies praying for Najib & Co's 'destruction'

One Malaysia:

No amount prayers can do anything to any person if the person is truthful and clean before Allah Al-Mighty.

Allah will not destroy anybody upon request of somebody else. So what's there to worry about?

If Najib really didn't have anything to do with Altantuya or Saiful really wasn't sodomised as claimed, then they have nothing to worry about. Nothing at all.

However, if these two had sworn falsely and had called Allah Al-Mighty as the witness; then they have everything to worry about. Absolutely nothing can save them now.

People planning dirty tricks against DSAI now should look as to what happened to those who fixed up DSAI ten years ago. Many had calamities befalling them.

On Quran swearing: 'The innocent have no fear...

Mustafa Ahmad : Saiful has sworn on the Quran testifying that he was sodomised by Anwar Ibrahim.

Recently Najib also sweared on the Quran that he never met the Mongolian girl that was brutally murdered.

So what do we expect to happen if Saiful and Najib actually lied before the Quran and before God? Nothing will happen.

There will no lightning that will suddenly strike these people. The earth will not open up and for these swearers to be swallowed by it.

They will not be turned to stones or into ugly toads. All these disasters and catastrophes can only happen in blockbusters movies created by Hollywood in America.

It is for this reason Saiful and Najib were prepared to swear on the Quran because this is an effective way to mislead the Muslims into believing them.

If they actually lied, they know nothing will happen to them but by doing so they thought their probability of winning more votes of the Muslim Malays at Permatang Pauh were higher.

Thomson Fletcher: With this latest trend adopted by some political parties, there is no need for lawyers, magistrates, judges and courts.

All you need to do is swear on the Holy Book to claim your innocence. It is convenient, and saves a lot of the rakyat 's money.

Thomas PS Goh:

The current law and government in Malaysia should be abolished since our senior ministers agree that swearing on the Holy Quran (in the future, maybe other religious holy books as well) is able to prove someone innocent of crime.

Thou shalt not judge by using the name of your God. It looks like God is very busy, managing and running the country.

No policemen or ACA are needed - only that every citizen in Malaysia swears every morning and night that they will not commit or have not committed any sin.

Back to work, politicians - especially those in Umno and PKR. In good times, you forget about God.

On Lim vs Koh: Lively debate on land scam

Alfred Ho: I wish to take this golden opportunity to commend both Lim Guan Eng and his personal assistant for their bravery in not giving in to the death threats that they have received as a result of the numerous land scams recently unearthed.

The death threats made on these two honourable gentlemen are most despicable, and the police should take this matter very seriously by proceeding with investigations immediately so that the perpetrators can be brought to justice and made to face the full force of the law.

From my observations, the death threats are the work of high-ranking officials from the former ruling administration.

They and are now feeling the heat and have every reason to fear the retribution that is slowly but surely coming their way.

I wish to urge Lim Guan Eng and his administration to expose the corruption that has been practised by former government officials without fear or favour.

May the full force of the law be brought upon them as an example to other officials in his administration who might plan to involve themselves in corruption in future.

On Stop dishing out datukship to kids

The Iceman: It is all very well, giving Datuk-ship to all. For Nicol David it is justified as she is a world champion.

However, Lim Chong Wei is only number two at the Olympics level - not justified.

All we are doing is encouraging mediocrity. Chew on that.

Pathma Devi Veerasingam:

Why not, when Siti Nurhaliza was awarded with the 'Darjah Indera Mahkota Pahang' (which carries the title ‘Datuk' on Oct 24, 2006) when she was just 27 years old by the Sultan of Pahang?

So why not the world champions? At least these world champions are capable of training other Malaysians in the future.

This is my personal view - by the way, I was born the same year as Nurhaliza.

Andy: I read the article and totally agree that giving a Datuk-ship to sports person is not appropriate.

DAP must show that they are different from the others and that people do not need a title to justify their contributions to the rakyat and the nation.

Giving titles to entertainers is also not appropriate. People like Datuk Siti Nurhaliza and others have not contributed to a change in the livelihood of Malaysians.
