On Law minister threatens to quit over ISA

Kenneth Tan: I thank God that we have de facto law minister Zaid Ibrahim speaking sense at this tumultuous time. I wish to congratulate him for his brave stand in disagreeing with the government on the use of the ISA on people who have different views.

Truly what the government has done is send our much loved nation back to the stone age. You have made us a laughing stock in a world that is now borderless. You have scared away would be investors with your blatant disregard for human rights and dignity.

What authority has the rakyat given to the government to detain our fellow citizens who speak the truth? I know the truth hurts but if it hurts, then correct yourselves. Detaining those who criticise you under the ISA lends credibility to what the bloggers and forward-thinking Malaysians have felt all this while: the government is out of touch with reality.

To lock people up under ISA puts the government in a very poor light. It is good that Zaid has chosen to disassociate himself from them. The people laud your stand as a true law minister, sir.

To the other elected MPs, you really have to search your soul if you keep your silence. Remember God is watching. He will judge you one day.

HAL: Finally, a decent fellow within the government! What a gem among the intellectually and morally corrupt. Hopefully, his colleagues will follow in his brave footsteps in speaking up for the rakyat .

Congratulations to Syed Hamid for his ingenuity in inventing a new branch of justice – punish the witnesses and set the guilty free. Imprison and deprive a person of his/her freedom and human rights to protect the guilty party. Such sheer ‘brilliance’ really boggles the mind.

On Pakatan plans anti-ISA rally tomorrow

Kamen: I don’t think it is a good time for Pakatan Rakyat to plan a rally. I know it is very hard to accept the fact that three innocent people were detained but if the rally turned problematic, the home ministry will have valid reasons to detain more Pakatan members under ISA.

Future Analyst: This rally is a bad idea. The government can use this as a reason to act against Pakatan leaders.

Pakatan should focus on the bigger picture. PKR should focus on the take over. When they have succeeded, they can abolish the ISA for the good of all Malaysians. Maybe then, a celebration will be in order.

On ISA blitz signals Umno in turmoil

A Malaysian: It is obvious now that some elements within the ruling party are trying to instigate racial hate and fear among us Malaysians for their own power struggle.

We condemn those who are willing to risk putting our country and the rakyat in harm’s way for their own personal power gain. They are the real reasons behind all the supposed ‘racial tension’ everyone thinks is happening.

What each and everyone of us desires is the same; opportunity to make a living, safety for our family and loved ones and our right as human beings protected.

JD Lovrenciear: The buck has to stop here, and right now.

Honourable prime minister, what would it feel like if you were 72-years-old and had an only daughter whom you educated and who landed a responsible job which she held for so long, which had to be snatched away all of a sudden and you had to run halter-skelter for a chance to see her?

I think to even let your men speak, explaining that it was all done over sixteen hours merely to protect the poor girl makes a mockery of our government.

Every citizen is shocked not only at the lightning-speed of the detention, but at the unbelievable reasons behind it.

Can you, honorable prime minister not see and sense the agony of the aging parents who have raised a responsible career minded professional journalist?

Well, suppose we accept that what was published in the paper was not right, do you not then think that the paper that employs her should be hauled in to explain? Why do your men pick on a single soul - the journalist, who is certainly not the one who decides what gets published in any paper.

By this very act, the prime minister and his courtyard have brought great disrepute to this nation - unless of course you rebut, "this is an internal matter and therefore it does not give anyone outside the country any right to comment".

Enough, sir. Enough.

Please do not betray the trust of the 51 percent of voters who chose to have the BN back in power. Listen to what the rakyat are saying and you will know how ridiculous this whole scenario is.

The buck has to stop, and stop here it must, to save the nation of worst perils and image agonies.

Laxman: The ‘Zimbabwenisation’ of Malaysia has begun. In 1998, Mugabe took Zimbabwe down the slippery slope. Ten years later, we all know where Zimbabwe ended up. Our politicians should put on their thinking caps and do something. If not, ten years from now, we will be where Zimbabwe is today.

Chun Keat: I am very worried about the situation in Malaysia today. I have a sister who is just 2-years-old and I am worried about her future as well as the future of other innocent citizens of Malaysia. Political havoc and draconian laws are affecting our peace and harmony. When will it all stop?

JNG: Living overseas for more than half my life, my heart goes out to the brave Malaysians who are fighting for change. It is so heartening to know that people no longer tolerate the injustice, corruption and nepotism of the current government.

Back in the day when Anwar Ibrahim was the deputy prime minister, I had a strong feeling that he was the person who would one day lead Malaysia out of the darkness and he will, love him or hate him.

It is healthy to be critical of any government, it is a way of keeping them in line, and to remind them that they have responsibilities towards their citizens. People make the country, not the government and unfortunately, greed has made those in power lose sight of this.

My heart goes out to the brave Malaysians and especially to Anwar. Please be safe, and to all, please keep him safe.

Cetepe: Calm down, people. The government is actually very caring. Surely, when it resorts to using the mighty ISA to protect the innocent victim, it must be doing something right.

The government has shown us its no-nonsense approach when it cannot handle the truth-tellers. The safest place to protect anyone is inside a police lock up or Bukit Aman. Your safety would be guaranteed. Isn’t that great?

The ISA must be renamed 'Your Security Act' (YSA) to avoid future misunderstanding.
