On Utusan dares Kok to take lie detector test

Lemon: It is more critical that Utusan Malaysia send their arrogant reporter for an IQ test as he/she has failed to realise just how unfairly Teresa Kok has been treated. It is clear that Teresa was detained for seven days under ISA without concrete reason, if at all there was a reason to start with.

Basic human rights don’t seem to exist in Malaysia. The continued harassing, insulting and provoking of opposition MPs only shows the arrogance, absurdity, inefficiency and ineffectiveness of the ruling coalition in dealing with problems. Why was Utusan Malaysia not issued a show-cause letter?

Teresa’s release is indeed a relief, but Malaysians must keep up the pressure on the government to release RPK, the Hindraf 5 and all the other ISA detainees. This unjust, archaic law must be repealed immediately.

Tetraigrat: Utusan Malaysia doesn't seem at all bothered or repentant of the grief it has caused an innocent woman. Now they are asking Teresa to take a lie detector test. How absurd is this? What next? Perhaps Teresa should swear on the Bible to clear her name. It will definitely be in keeping with what has been happening lately.

If Teresa refuses to take the lie detector test, Unmo politicians will use this news to further strengthen their false accusations that she was indeed involved in the azan and other controversies.

So, the rightful next step is to sue the paper. Teresa should not bother asking for an apology. A lawsuit might just scare this unrepentant daily to be more professional and responsible in reporting the news.

Peter Ooi: First and foremost, welcome back to freedom, Teresa. You are a true hero to all fairminded Malaysians.

While we were digesting the good news of Teresa’s release, came news of Utusan Malaysia daring her to take a lie detector test. I must say that this one of the most absurd things I have heard of in a while. Teresa and RPK’s arrests have not caused racial tension. The arrests, in fact, brought Malaysians of all races together in protest of such injustice.

When Teresa was in detention, the mosque officials came forth in her defence. A PAS MP even lodged a police report against Khir Toyo, who started the whole controversy in the first place. Why hasn’t he been held accountable for his actions and mischievous allegations?

The previous occasion when RPK was detained and appealed for a small sum of money to post bail, there was such a huge response from all walks of live that the amount collected far exceeded the target. I wonder how a man who unites all Malaysians, regardless of race and religion, can be accused of causing racial tension.

Rocky: Why should Teresa take a lie detector test? I'm surprised she wasn’t asked to swear by the Bible since rule of law means nothing in this country nowadays.

Who is the guilty party here? The mosque in question has denied that Teresa ordered it to lower the volume of azan. However, she has been asked to take a lie detector test because Utusan Malaysia thinks that is the best way to prove her innocence.

Let’s not forget that the police have released her. Utusan Malaysia seems to have better intelligence and investigation skills then the police.

In my opinion, the daily has no qualms about bringing up racial issues because it is protected by Umno and hence the police. There seems to be double standards in law enforcement in this country, especially when Umno or any of its ‘partners’ are involved.

Tim Finian: Utusan Malaysia seems to be watching too many American cop serials on television. Why else would it suggest a polygraph test? I wouldn’t be surprised if two sets of machines are used if indeed Teresa agrees to be ‘tested’.

One for the Umno supporters who rule the roost, manipulated of course, to show they are telling the truth even when they are lying. And another for the defenceless people, manipulated of course to show they are lying even when they are telling the truth. Sounds far-fetched? Anything is possible nowadays!

Hey, Utusan Malaysia , how about getting your political-masters to take a poly-test conducted by an independent, international panel, starting with the former Selangor menteri besar who started the whole ruckus in the first place?

Don’t forget a test on your writer who sparked this whole episode by allowing his emotions to get the better of him before proving his claims.

Joshua Chia: Utusan Malaysia ’s dare is absurd. If they actually do their research, they will know that a lie detector test can be faked. I am not saying that Teresa Kok is going to cheat but merely making the point that the usage of a lie detector is silly.

Many things must be considered when taking this lie detector test. Who is going to oversee it? Are they going to use a machine or a person trained to detect lies? My point here is, taking a lie detector test is not the solution to the problem.

Simon Yip: The government's logic behind the detention of Sin Chew Daily journalist Tan Hoon Cheng and Teresa Kok is a joke. It is a case of going after the messenger rather than the criminal.

Utusan Malaysia’s dare is another farce. What sort of law and logic is the daily trying to employ here? Is it so intellectually bankrupt and hollow that it has to resort to such methods? I am guessing the statement by the imam of the particular mosque defending Teresa is not acceptable?

As for Khir Toyo, since it was he who is started this, should he not be asked to provide evidence? Why wasn’t he detained under the ISA?

Anybody notice how all those taken into custody so far are opposition voices? So, if you are in the government, different standards will be applied and you will be safe. Is this rule of law? Are our police practicing the rule of law or the rules of those in power?

I am sure all Malaysians are asking this question. If there are two sets laws in this country, we are in serious trouble as a nation.
