Yet another reason for the IPCMC
Published:  Jan 9, 2009 9:22 AM

vox populi big thumbnail ‘The cops are guilty of employing excessive force on a civilian at Bandar Mahkota Cheras but the perpetrator cannot be identified? Is it not time that the IPCMC be established to set things straight?'

On Suhakam: Cops guilty of excessive force

Phoon Khar Yue: Let me get this right. The cops are guilty of employing excessive force on a civilian but however the perpetrator cannot be identified?

Isn't that as good as not saying anything? Is it not time that the Independent Police Complaints and Misconduct Commission (IPCMC) be established to set things straight?

JitSinExpress: We hear of police personnel being pulled out from high crime rate areas and we have heard enough stories of a policeman shortage throughout the country.

But why do we still have police acting like gangsters, beating up Malaysian citizens?

Why is that government has enough policemen to disperse a peaceful crowd or to hunt down opposition MPs and throw them in jail under ISA but Malaysians are suffering from fear and trauma everyday because of our country's high crime rate?

This is so sick.

On Choose people over money, TNB urged

Sum: Since July, 2008, Malaysians have been paying 30% more for electricity. You can see the new TNB tariff rates here .

www.tnb.com.my

My electricity bill, that used to hover around RM60-70 a month, suddenly jumped to RM90-100 a month. Meanwhile, my water bill is around RM5-10 a month.

As a public utility, shouldn't the cost of electricity be more like the cost of water?

According to TNB, electricity is more expensive now because of rising gas prices, and has nothing to do with petrol. But isn't part of the reason gas prices are high because petrol prices are high?

When the petrol transportation costs of gas tankers goes up, price of gas goes up. Now that petrol is at around US$50 a barrel, shouldn't these transportation costs have come down?

Likewise, shouldn't price of gas be cheaper now?

Also, what is TNB doing in terms of renewable energy resources (like solar power) to cut down on their dependence on the independent power producers?

Sure, companies need to make money but don't overcharge the rakyat to make undeserved profits.

Public utilities like water and electricity must always remain affordable for all Malaysians. Speak up, Malaysia, call your elected members of Parliament now and tell them loud and clear that we, the rakyat , want the electricity tariffs to be reviewed and reduced immediately.

On Gastronomical 'discrimination' leaves students angry, hungry

Disgusted with Umno: How blatantly racist can UM get? If as they say, a Malay can cook Chinese food and as such got the Chinese food contract, likewise, a Chinese or Indian can very easily cook Malay food.

So why aren't any Malay stalls given to Chinese or Indian operators? Get rid of the present education minister and there won't be as much racism in our schools.

An additional benefit of getting rid of him would be an immediate improvement in our level of education.

On Gapena, think of others too

Milton Yap: I agree. There are people in the ivory towers who are out of touch with the masses. They have comfortable positions.

One does not have to look very far. Go to the stores in KLCC or Mid Valley. There is a high chance you will find a Malay sales lady or service person who cannot speak English.

You speak to them in English, they will answer in Malay, even after a many prompts. This drives away tourists. Many of my foreign friends get put off. They don't understand Malay and have to call for the supervisor to communicate.

I am not sure if it is national pride or the lack of education and training that has resulted in the lack of confidence to speak English. I feel it is the latter.

So, there you go. The chances of a Malay getting employed is lower.

On Tell the politicians: ISA goes or you go!

A Disgusted Malaysian:

You name it, they have done it all - everything that they should not, and not doing everything that they should. If the ISA should still not be abolished - don't worry.

When PKR takes over the government (soon), please do not abolish it - free all who are still detained, then put all the corrupted self- serving BN politicians into Kamunting.

Treat them all with daily meals that cost RM4.50 a meal. Let them enjoy their stay there for a good number of years and at the end of which abolish the ISA.

On Women's activist Toni Kasim dies

Millionth Citizen: I wouldike to quote Toni ten months on after the March general elections and six months after her passing.

She always reminded elected representative that 'if elected, they must speak for the people'.

We are to understand 'people' means Malaysians. Here we are in Pakatan Rakyat and pleas by enthusiastic elected members have many times turned into racial calls.

Yes, it is always popular to fight for your own race after being elected. In the Barisan Nasional, it has sadly been the same. Why can't an elected representative speak and speak for just Malaysians alone?

Do we all have different problems? Are we just Indian, Malay and Chinese and not Malaysian?. When can Malaysian politicians come out of this ever-sticky cocoon?

Now, it is Barisan in power. Is it going to be the same when Pakatan Rakyat takes over?
