Penang Umno Youth lodged a police report against Karpal Singh today for his threat to sue Perak’s Sultan Azlan Shah, and called on the police to charge the veteran parliamentarian under the Sedition Act.

anti karpal singh protest umno 090209 01 The movement also called on Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi to advise the king to revoke Karpal’s citizenship for allegedly committing treason.

The police report was also lodged to protest against Karpal’s threat to take stern action against those who lodged false police reports against him.

Balik Pulau Umno Youth leader Azian Ariffin lodged the report on behalf of the movement at the Seberang Perai Tengah (SPT) district police headquarters in Bukit Mertajam at 11am.

In his press statement read out later, Azian called on the police to investigate Karpal under Section 3(1)(a) or (f) of the Sedition Act for allegedly uttering seditious remarks and invoking public anger that threatened national security and public order.

anti karpal singh protest umno 090209 03 He also wants the police to take action against Karpal, the Bukit Gelugor MP, under Section 506 of the Penal Code for intimidating those who lodged police reports against him.

“Karpal has constantly issued statements and acted against Malay interests and stirred the community’s anger and sentiments.

“He cannot go on doing this. We are ready to take him on this issue,” said the youth leader.

Some 100 Penang Umno Youth leaders and members carrying various banners and streamers condemning Karpal, accompanied Azian to lodge the report.

'Karpal ill mannered'

Among the slogans on the banners were: ‘Karpal Kurang Ajar’ (Karpal ill mannered); Tarik Balik Kerakyatan Karpal’ (Revoke Karpal’s citizenship);‘Kami Telah Hilang Sabar – Pemuda Umno Pulau Pinang’ (We have lost patience – Penang Umno youth); ‘Hina Raja Bermakna Hina Melayu’ (An insult to the King is an insult to Malays).

anti karpal singh protest umno 090209 04 There was also a banner chiding ousted Perak menteri besar Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin - ‘Jangan Hina Raja Melayu: Nizar – Perderhaka, Karpal – Kurang Ajar (Don’t insult Malay royalty: Nizar - Traitor, Karpal – Ill Mannered).

The Umno Youth leaders and members displayed their banners for the media in the police headquarters compound for about 30 minutes until SPT police chief Dr Mohd Shah Hussin Shah abruptly stopped them and told them to disperse.

Azian told a press conference later that Karpal would have been sentenced to death during ancient times for committing treason against the royalty.

Bukit Gelugor Umno youth leader Hisham Ahmad Sabri said "we also want the premier to advise the Agong to revoke Karpal’s citizenship for committing treason,”
