A warrant of arrest has been issued against Changkat Jering assemblyperson Mohd Osman Jailu, after he failed to turn up for his corruption trial at the magistrate's court in Ipoh this morning.

jamaluddin mat radzi and osman jailu perak pkr Osman's sister told magistrate Sharmila Abdul Samad that he was unwell but failed to produce a medical certificate on his behalf.

However the court cancelled the warrant later this afternoon after Mohd Osman faxed his MC to the court, according to his lawyer Abdul Roni Abd Rahman.

The lawyer was also quoted in media reports that Mohd Osman was still recuperating in hospital.

Earlier, Mohd Osman's aide Puzi Ghazali told Malaysiakini that the former was most likely to be discharged today.

He had been admitted last night for a "heart problem".

Puzi also said he anticipated no difficulty for Osman over the warrant of arrest, given the situation.

Behrang assemblyperson Jamaluddin Mohd Radzi also failed to turn up for the trial. He however, produced a MC and hence, he escaped a warrant of arrest .

The corruption case was being heard at the Magistrate's Court as the Sessions judge Tan Hooi Leng is attending a three-day course in Kuala Lumpur.

Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission deputy public prosecutor Mohammad Jazamuddin Ahmad Nawawi made the application for the warrant of arrest.

Sharmila then postponed the hearing of the graft trial to June 15 and set April 13 for mention of the warrant of arrest.

MACC to enforce warrant

Perak MACC commissioner Bahri Mohamad Zin confirmed the warrant of arrest was issued by the Magistrate's Court and said the commission would enforce it.

"We will be looking and arrest him over his failure to come to court today," he said when contacted earlier today.

And when contacted at about 5pm, he said that the warrant has not been revoked as claimed by Mohd Osman's lawyer.

Osman is charged with accepting RM5,000 from Mohamad Imran on Aug 14 last year at Aquarius Restaurant and Bar, Summit Hotel, Bukit Mertajam, Penang.

He is also charged with soliciting a RM100,000 bribe from Imran at the same place and time to approve the Sri Iskandar building project, and receiving a RM100,000 bribe from the same person on Aug 19 at Restoran Kluang Station Cafe, Ipoh Raya.

Jamaluddin is jointly charged with Parit PKR division chief Usaili Alias for allegedly receiving RM5,000 from Mohamad Imran on Aug 14, at the Perak secretariat to approve the project.

The two state representatives have left PKR to become Independents and have thrown their support behind Barisan Nasional in Perak.
