The decision to suspend the newly-minted Perak menteri besar and his six executive councillors is akin to waging war against the sultan, said a pro-Barisan Nasional youth organisation today.

According to the Malaysian Indian Youth Development Foundation (MIYDF), the move contravened the royal pronouncement and 'assaulted the very web that binds our society'.

sa vigneswaran "I am baffled by the behaviour of Pakatan Rakyat leaders who make bizarre and unprecedented decisions that show that the speaker of the state assembly is above the constitutional monarch," said MIYDF chairperson and legal consultant SA Vigneswaran.

The former MIC Youth chief was responding to the decision by the Perak state assembly's committee of special privileges to suspend Perak Menteri Besar Zambry Abdul Kadir for 18 months and his excos for 12 months.

The decision which plunges Perak into another crisis was announced by speaker V Sivakumar yesterday.

The northern state has been in turmoil since BN seized control of the state government after four Pakatan Rakyat state reps quit their respective parties. Three became BN-friendly independents while the other rejoined Umno.

"The committee has totally disregarded the state and federal constitutions and the spirit of the Rukunegara in deciding to suspend the office of MB and six others," said Vigneswaran.

"Pakatan Rakyat's modus operandi in bringing about this episode is akin to waging war against His Highness, the Sultan of Perak and a clearly defined act of treason," he added.

Why not wait for court's decision?

Despite the quagmire that Pakatan seems to have gotten itself into, Vignesawaran said, the alliance is displaying new developments of procedural democracy in an appalling manner.

"Aren't Malaysians shocked at the behaviour of Pakatan Rakyat, which won't allow its members to hop but will welcome other hoppers into its fold.

"I view this unethical decision by Pakatan Rakyat to resurrect in Perak with grave concern and utter disgust," he added.

Vigneswaran also asked why Pakatan Rakyat could not wait for the decision by the court on the suit filed by the alliance's ousted menteri besar Mohd Nizar Jamaluddin to challenge the appointment of Zambry.

"This fact only strengthens the theory that their suit is a ploy to incite sentiments and public sympathy," he said.

"Pakatan Rakyat has violated the sacred oath of allegiance towards Perak and Malaysia.

"If this unethical and demeaning conduct goes unchecked, Malaysia will head towards political chaos that none wish for," he added.
