Indonesia's armed forces chief Marshal Joko Suyanto arrived in Kuala Lumpur last night for talks with his Malaysian counterpart Abdul Aziz Zainal to map strategies to fight cross-border crime and terrorism.
The meeting, which begins Thursday, will cover issues related to illegal logging, human smuggling and terrorism, said Abdul Aziz.
Suyanto, accompanied by a high-powered delegation of some 25 officials described military ties as "growing from strength to strength."
Abdul Aziz said the annual meeting was a platform to foster ties and enhance security at their common border.
He said the overall security situation in the two countries was "stable and secure."
Illegal logging and mining is a serious problem in Indonesia's East Kalimantan province on Borneo island, which is shared with Malaysia.
