Subang Jaya barricades: State rep appreciated

I refer to the letter Barricades in Subang Jaya: Tell us something we don't know .

I must inform the writer that :

1. The state assembly person has consistently taken the position that the barricades are only temporary measures. She has communicated this to the community and residents agree with her.

2. The barricades are the residents' response to the deteriorating crime situation and the outcome of the feeling of anger, frustration and helplessness turned into defiance and ultimately into the feeling that our safety is now solely our own responsibility.

It is a heavy and onerous task - the state assembly person's presence lends support to residents and it helps to unite the people towards the common goal.

3. The crime situation affects not only Subang Jaya but all of the Klang Valley and the rest of the country. The police are not adequately equipped to tackle the problem and BN is not politically committed to the task.

Residents don't see an issue with the state assembly person showing support for one of the few viable temporary solutions to this problem. A ‘hands-off’ approach from a state assembly person  is not an option.

4. Overall, the residents' are fully aware that the country faces other challenges eg. unemployment, drugs, foreign workers, budget deficit, etc, which are contributing factors to the crime situation.

These are all beyond the scope of the state assembly person to tackle. Residents are appreciative that the state assembly person does what she can do within the scope of her role.

Ultimately, residents know that the federal government is responsible for solving this issue and I'm sure the residents have an idea what the final solution needs to be.
