From June 22 through 24, three major districts, namely Gombak, Hulu Selangor and Petaling will be experiencing major water disruption.

It is shocking that the public utility company should fail to inform over a million affected residents of the three-day water cut in the Klang Valley.

I only came to know about it on the evening of June 19, when I received a notice from a caring State Assemblyman, Elizabeth Wong, who took the trouble to forward the email to her constituents and people on her mailing list.

I also took the trouble to forward the same email to all my friends, many of whom are also caught unawares.

Some of them who are living in apartments told me that their management started putting up notices only this afternoon.

By the time they return home from work, most people would be trying to store water for the next three days.

This afternoon, I was fortunate to buy a 100-litre plastic container in order to store the water. Without this amount of water, my wife who is going through confinement, would have a lot of difficulties, considering that the water disruption would possibly extend to the third day.

Syabas should in future be more responsible as a public utility company to inform members of the public of its plan to carry out major maintenance work.

Its failure to inform the consumers is something that can no longer be tolerated. Someone within the organisation has to bear the brunt of public anger.

I hate to think that some manufacturers and restaurant owners will be caught unawares and their businesses affected because of the failure of Syabas to keep their consumers informed.
