I would like to highlight the issue of international schools where the criteria for enrolment is set by the Education Ministry. Malaysians are not accepted as students unless either parent is a foreigner or the student has resided overseas for at least three years.
But it seems these strict rules don't apply to the children of certain corporate and political personalities, many of whom who are currently attending these schools. The most prominent are our deputy prime minister's (Najib Abdul Razak) children who attend the posh Garden International School in Kuala Lumpur.
As far as I know, they definitely do not fulfil the criteria set by the ministry for Malaysians to study in these schools. Why the double standards?
But I can certainly understand why our honourable DPM has no faith in our education system. Being a former education minister he should know.
Well, he is certainly not alone as many Malaysians too, have no confidence at all in our current education system . So why bar ordinary Malaysians from sending their children to international schools?
Any Malaysian who wants and can afford to enrol his or her children in these schools should be given an opportunity to do so. Not just the so-called 'upper-class'.
