Once again 'the powers-that-be' have shown their true colours. Like it or not, there shall be only one toll collection system for Malaysian highways, we are told. Big business and politics has reared their ugly heads yet again.
It doesn't matter if the enforcement of the one toll collection system benefits only a 'certain company'. Don't bother to listen to the various pleas put forward by hapless road users in the media.
Ignore the genuine claims that the system selected is from a cut-throat company with the so-called 'smart tag' being not so smart after all, and more expensive (even after a discount) than those offered by smaller concessionaires.
Don't bother about the genuine problem in getting the card re-loaded - consumers now need to open an account with a selected banks to enable them to enjoy automatic reloading. Ignore the fact that the 'tag' itself is not as good or as maintenance free as those offered by smaller concessionaires.
Please, for once listen to us highway users who give you millions daily and pay for your salaries. What we see is you enriching only one company at the expense of millions of highway users.
And what is this 'Customer Satisfaction Survey on Tolled Highways' being currently conducted by the Malaysian Highway Authority and other highway concessionaires?
There are more than 200 questions asked mainly on the toilets and the food courts along highways but not even a single question asking: 'Which toll collection system do you prefer?' or 'What do you think of highway toll rates in Malaysia?'
