I refer to your report Anwar in danger of paralysis, say family .

The government must bear in mind is that the medical condition of a person cannot be neglected, ignored or even procrastinated for even a second. This applies even if it is a flu.

After reading about the medical condition of Anwar, I am of the firm conviction his condition warrants immediate medical attention. Simply because a person is in jail does not mean that he should be denied his right to seek medical care that is required.

If the government is worried about the expenses, then let the family shoulder the burden. If the government is worried about the patient escaping for good, then please take the necessary precautionary measures to prevent this.

But under no circumstances should anybody deny a prisoner the right to proper medical care. This is inhuman, uncivilised and unbecoming of any sane person or government.

The prime minister must be fully aware of how a sick person feels. His own wife is suffering from cancer. What if she was denied cancer treatment by the right doctors and at the needed time?

Let us not carry the sin of neglecting a fellow human being. My contention is that it is now absolutely vital that Anwar be given the benefit of receiving the medical attention of his choice.

As a doctor, I must affirm that no patient should be compelled to be treated by a doctor not of his choice. The patient must be treated by the doctor of his choice and in whom he has confidence.

We must at the same time remember Anwar was a former minister and a deputy prime minister. He has not caused harm to any human being. This is what we all have to remember. Let us forget about our egos, our self-centeredness and our selfish natures for a moment and spare a thought for a fellow human who is begging for medical care.

Let us forget all the bureaucracies as there is no time for all that. Right now, someone in Malaysia must take immediate action and do everything necessary to send Anwar to the doctor or specialist that he chooses, be it in Malaysia or anywhere else in the world.

There is no room for politics or sentiments - only the absolute need for medical care that a fellow human needs.

If the prime minister can take the initiative and order immediate action, please do so. Otherwise, I request our King to intervene and make the required orders so that immediate action can be taken to ensure that Anwar receives the required medical treatment.

Let us be reasonable and sensible. No human being in the medical condition that Anwar is in would ever want to try play tricks and make an adventurous escape. Let us simply abandon that ridiculous notion. Let us now do what is absolutely necessary.
