I am a Malaysian doctor who is currently practising in the UK. I was flabbergasted by the outrageous opinions expressed by Hantuimc which were essentially racist diatribes against the 'white British'.

Many of his claims were a distortion of reality and are far removed from the truth. Furthermore, his letter was riddled with contradictions which undermined his thesis that the white British are essentially racist and immoral.

Of course there will always be examples of racist behaviour in the world but I would categorically state that this is not the norm in the UK. As a Indian Malaysian, I have never been overtly discriminated against in the UK.

Indeed, I have always been struck by the average British person's sense of justice and fair play.

With regard to the police cadets who were 'outed' by The Secret Policeman , this made headline news and the cadets were ignominiously sacked. There was general revulsion throughout the country and the issue was discussed at length in the British parliament.

In contrast, Malaysian human rights activist Irene Fernandez , who exposed police brutality and deaths in Malaysian immigrant detention centres, has been given a custodial sentence for spreading 'false news'.

Hantuimc's experience in the UK is in fact, a shining example of Britain's non-discriminatory policies. At the tender age of 27, he is earning RM$420 000 and serving a population of 65,000. What tremendous faith the system has in this young Asian man, allowing him to prosper in such a magnificent way!

It begs the question how a society which is 'institutionally racist' could allow this foreigner to train so effectively and quickly, giving him a him a lucrative job with responsibility for a huge population. Surely this is the stuff of dreams.

In Britain, the major political parties are not race-based or 'English only'. There is no concept of 'English Supremacy' or 'Ketuanan Inggeris'. There is no six percent discount for houses sold to people who claim to be 'English'. People are equal before the law, and you can appeal if you feel there has been a transgression.

On the other hand, in Malaysia as an Indian, I am classified by law as 'non-bumiputera', and hence do not qualify for 'special privileges'. Hantuimc should realise that this is institutionalised racism, plain and simple.

I qualified from a British university and am currently working in a teaching hospital in England. The minimum period required for medical degree training in the UK is five years. Currently, around 40 percent of UK's medical school intakes are non-Caucasians.

If anything, it can be argued that non-Caucasians are being favoured for British medical schools, though they represent only eight percent of the population.

Hantuimc claims to have completed his medical training in four years, having amazingly been given the money-saving option to 'skip a year'. In addition, he was given the opportunity to study Islam as an 'extra subject' in his jam packed four-year curriculum!

This is not the stuff of dreams, it is the stuff of pure fiction.
