Dear Prime Minister,

It's coming to almost to a year of trials and errors since you have taken over the reins of the Barisan Nasional government from Dr Mahathir Mohamad. In the March general election, the people overwhelmingly gave you and your team the political mandate to rule this nation.

Recently, Umno, too, endorsed your presidency of the party and to lead all Malaysians under your banner of 'Gemilang, Cemerlang dan Terbilang', a slogan that has been misunderstood by many who conveniently twisted its virtues.

Pak Lah, you have overcome the rituals and storms of your first 12 months in office with a unique political system of administration. Certainly you have achieved much in this short period of time despite ongoing criticisms against your administration including that you have been too soft and lenient as a national leader and that you are perceived as 'under-qualified' with only the credentials of your religious qualifications.

But Alhamdulillah, Allah's guidance matters and you have proven to be the ideal leader for the people and the nation. You believe in the will of God Almighty, and no matter what happens, you have to assume greater accountability in this life and in the life hereafter.

One of the most significant turns of events that we have seen under your administration is perhaps the release of Anwar Ibrahim by the courts. Only God knows whether there was indeed a political conspiracy that had destroyed the political career of Anwar as he so claims.

I am sure as prime minister, you had nothing to do with the judiciary's decision to free Anwar after six long years behind bars. In consequence to Anwar's release, you have moved to consolidate Umno's position and neutralise the thoughts of members that Anwar will be able to bounce back into Umno.

It's now a foregone conclusion that Anwar's return to Umno will not be welcome, though a few political pundits have suggested a political struggle between you, your deputy Najib Razak and Anwar.

However, I can assure you Pak Lah that Najib is a loyalist and will always compromise with you as he had done on previous occasions in his political journey. Though he is prepared to be the next leader, he is in no haste to take over from you and this has to be treated with the utmost political courtesy and respect.

On another front, you have stop the 'wayang kulit' (shadow play) by some Umno leaders and purge those who are not sincere in their struggles for the Malays in particular and Malaysians in general.

It is also noted that you have devised a number of administrative plans and strategies to push your agenda for a clean and transparent government besides revamping the civil service for higher responsibility and accountability. Now it's up to the government agencies concerned to turn your vision into reality.

On a personal note, there is much concern that you may have not countered accusations that you and your family are implicated in serious national and international economic and financial affairs, including Iraq's Oil for Food programme during the heydays of Saddam Hussein.

I believe that over time, the truth will prevail as there are many out there in the open who abuse the power of politics to reap economic returns through unsolicited patronage. They believe in getting richer and richer in life but lack the morals of human decency.

May Allah swt continue to bless you and family Pak Lah, though I and my immediate family may be thousand of miles away from home. Salam.
