It is in the name of Muslim brotherhood that Muslim refugees get to enjoy the privileges and rights of the bumiputera in this land ruled by the Muslim majority. There is no way for anyone to really differentiate between a Malay and a non-Malay Muslim who has changed his name to a local one.
While before we had Indian Muslims with 'anak/lelaki' or 'anak/perempuan' in their names, nowadays I doubt if any Indian Muslim would register their children as such.
They would instead prefer the Malay Muslim equivalent of 'bin' or 'binti' which will automatically mean that the person is a bumiputera, at least on paper. With this, comes all the perks and privileges that come with being a bumiputera.
The Rohingyas refugees will be accorded bumiputera status in no time just like the Cambodian Muslim refugees, some who actually tried to tell me that they were Malays.
The government is wondering why there is so much racial polarisation among the younger generation. I would like to request the top Umno leaders to just imagine how we feel when our children are not even equal to the children of Muslim refugees and recent migrants.
Don't we have the right to feel discontented? Are we going to be reminded over and over again that we are here courtesy of the bumiputera natives ? We are supposed to be citizens of this land. We pay taxes but we are not quite eligible for all the benefits that are brought about by our tax money.
There is a deep-seated feeling of resentment when we pay our taxes. To quote my Malay friends, there are occasions where we feel 'tidak rela' that our money is being spent by others. Again to quote my kampong friends, I will never 'halalkan' a single sen of my tax money if it is spent only on those who are privileged.
