I am writing to express my disgust at Anwar Ibrahim's comments made in his exclusive interview with malaysiakini .
He actually referred to former premier Dr Mahathir Mohamd as 'old man'. I am sure he did not say that out of respect to Dr M.
Allow me to point out that Mahathir was the man that was instrumental in Anwar's political star rising. Dr M needed him and Anwar certainly took the opportunity to cement his own position within Umno.
This is also the very man that Anwar - through his proxy - accused of corruption, cronyism and nepotism only to find that his (Anwar's) own relatives were also on the lists of 'cronies' that Dr M released.
He saw a possibility to topple Dr M and he took the risk and was squashed in the process. Until today, no media cares to ask Anwar if he could explain why he thought he could topple Dr M. Overconfidence? Impatience? Or was it because he felt that he had to do something to save Malaysia?
There can't be two captains for a ship. Anwar took the risk, and was finished off by the master. He then accused the system of being unfair. Was he the last Malaysian to realise that? The very least he can do now is to be a gentleman and show Dr M some respect.
OK, to be fair, let the past be past. Now that Anwar has been given a second chance, we shall wait and see. I am not very optimistic. He has been known to customise his message according to his audience.
He has been called many generous names - reformer, Muslim scholar, etc. but I think the most fitting one would be 'politician'.
