The writer of the letter Disenchanted in the land of plenty is one of the millions in Malaysia suffering from the post 'feel good' feeling factor. It's also called an anti climax, a broken promise and painful reality.
The writer is right, the only reason we are all still here is because Malaysia is a beautiful country with its multiple joys, colours and festivals. We have one of the best food anywhere in the world. We are not the ones that should go. This is our country.
It's the hundreds of rotten, corrupt politicians who drive their 'toys' into their houses paid for by public funds that have sold out their country. They should be the ones to leave or be put behind bars.
The way I see it, the current administration does not have the will nor the strength to seriously cleanup corruption. That would mean bringing to justice all those who have amassed millions in the last 20 years as a result of the giant privatisation projects.
This government will not do it because its roots sink deep into those years of wanton waste and squandering. It is time to allow a credible opposition to lead the government. If democracy is alive and well in Malaysia as we say it is, then this is not an unbelievable statement.
It is a possibility and the people should make it a reality. If the opposition presents a credible and fair manifesto that appeals to all Malaysians, then we, the rakyat, must give them a chance to lead and perhaps turn the tide of corruption and decay backwards.
I am not involve in politics, neither in Barisan Nasional or the opposition. But it is time, I believe, to allow the opposition a greater voice in 21st century Malaysia.
