MMU not up to standard
MJL | Aug 25, 05 12:57pm
Referring to the letter Conditions at MMU terrible, I, too, have been at MMU Cyberjaya for four years with a year more to go. All the years I have been here have been nothing but a disappointment. The only good thing about my course is that we finally have two classrooms of our own with a few high-tech gizmos and top guns from Panasonic coming to give a speech and a show on future mobile technologies.

Apart from that, the computer labs provided for us are not up to date, especially those doing IT and Engineering. There are only a few good computer labs in the whole of MMU. How do you expect students to study properly when their basic needs for good computers are not met?

Most of the staff are rude and some of them very lazy. Kudos, though, to some of the staff who help students with their problems even though it doesn’t involve money coming into MMU. Most of the staff are only helpful if it involves money coming in for the university.

I am under the PTPTN scheme but when the money wasn't yet transferred into my account, MMU barred me from taking my examinations. My family managed to borrow from outside. But that was a huge sum of money. I feel really sorry for my parents who somehow managed to raise that amount.

One of my friends was in the same boat, but in a worse situation as he couldn’t raise the amount needed for the fees. He told the staff he had only RM80 for the coming two weeks. The staff actually took RM50 from him and still barred him from the exams. MMU seems to assume that all who enroll at private colleges and universities are from wealthy families.

At times, I feel like MMU’s strategy is only to make more money. All those fines ands money for this and that is used to finance the construction of the new buildings to make even more money, not to raise its academic standard.
