This letter is in reponse to Charles F Moreira's Terrorism: Ongoing saga of private vs state .

The writer states, 'The Muslims should support the resistance forces in Iraq and Afghanistan while working with anti-war organisations in the US, Britain, etc to force their respective governments to withdraw from the war in these countries'.

This statement not only shows an utter lack of knowledge on the situation in Iraq and Afghanistan but is also morally reprehensible as it supports the very terrorism which is costing the lives of Iraqis.

The writer has every right to object to the US occupation of Iraq but he seems unaware that in almost every poll on Iraqi attitudes towards the occupation, the people of Iraq, while wanting the occupation to end, admit that the hardships suffered to dispose Saddam were worth it.

Furthermore, the majority of Iraqis do not support the 'resistence' and most view it as nothing more than a bunch of thugs and terrorists that are claiming innocent Iraqi lives. Poll information can be seen here and here .

From the point of view of dispassionate analysis, there would be no reason to wage resistance on the Americans. According to Gallup, 60 percent of Americans already want their country to get out of Iraq .

Any smart Iraqi would know that the US, in the 20th century, has not had a history of imperialism or colonialism. It has invaded other countries, but always given them back to their people. (Germany and Japan being the two best examples).

A smart Iraqi would have accepted the billions of dollars of US money being pumped into their economy and used this to help rebuild Iraq. The fools are the ones blowing themselves up and thus extending the need for the US security presence in Iraq.

Their actions also result in billions of dollars that should be going into schools and government agencies being re-directed into security. This hurts the future of the Iraqi economy.

I won't even comment on the writer's other absurd statements on how Muslims in Malaysia should go to Iraq and Afghanistan and fight the 'imperialist' armies. Or how he suspects the bombs in London where placed by the CIA or Mossad to prolong the battle in Iraq.

Simple minds like his should stop inciting terror and spreading conspiracy theories. They only serve to make the anti-war, liberal movement look like a bunch of quacks. He hurts the very cause he seeks to represent.
