  • It is clear from the many letters published on the subject of the recent fuel price increase that the majority do not mind the increase if there is an efficient public transportation system in place.

    It must also be clear that no amount of complaints and protests will get the government to back down and revert the fuel price to its former level, short of mounting massive demonstrations which are not likely to take place.

    However, what we as citizens and voters can do is to hold Pak Lah's administration to its promise to use the money saved, RM4.4 billion a year or RM366 million a month, to improve public transportation. In fact with RM366 million a month, improvement could almost be initiated immediately.

    I am proposing a Public Transportation Watchdog be set up to monitor progress on any action taken to improve public transportation as promised. Maybe malaysiakini can take up the offer on this?
