I read with interest Jamna's reply to Dr Sarah Verghis . The writer is incorrect in assuming and alluding that others interfere with the way Muslims worship, particularly in this country. Perhaps Jamna has not looked hard enough or, like many others, does not want to look at all. Most non-Muslims, if not all, do not have the time nor the reasons to interfere with whatever is being said and done by the Islamic community in this country save for and except when it affects our interests.

The 'to you your religion, to me mine' rule has always been observed by the non-Muslim community. The real issue is when there are grey area situations such as in the case of M Moorthy and the non-Muslim mother whose children were handed over to their Muslim father after they divorced

The High Court judge in the Moorthy case did not even want to hear the wife out. What do you think would have been the case if it had been truly established that Moorthy, had, in fact, converted to Islam? Non-Muslims would have accepted this gracefully as that would be the right thing to do.

Most of us do not concern ourselves with what Muslims want to do with their faith. It is their right and we do not wish to worry ourselves with matters in which we lack knowledge of. So please cease lecturing us on something we are all attuned to already. As the good person you are, have a thought for us, too.
