In Terminator's letter Police 'tudung': Stop the fuss , the writer asked the following question. 'Can one imagine how a police parade would look like if everybody wore differently?'

In my opinion, I would imagine that the parade would look just like Malaysia. It would resemble the wonderful diversity of religion, race, culture and ethnicity that make up Malaysia. In fact, these differences should be celebrated, not covered up in the name of uniformity.

In Canada in the 1980s, a Sikh officer in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police wanted to wear a brown turban instead of the traditional "Mountie" hat. It was a struggle at the time but his success is now heralded as a sign of that country's inclusive nature. Malaysia should also consider looking at diversity as a strength - not a weakness.

The author suggests that it's not a big deal to force non-Muslims to wear official Muslim garb but try anywhere in the world today to force Muslims to wear non-Muslim garb and we will see massive street and diplomatic protests throughout the Muslim world.

Muslims can't expect others around the world to respect their religious and cultural values while forcing their own non-Muslim citizens and visitors to conform unquestioningly to theirs and then expect people not to resent it.
