I refer to the letter Remove wall around Petronas and its wealth .

Petronas is a business entity, it has to make profit and have long-term business objectives. But I think Petronas has never forgotten its social responsibilities. Petronas pays royalties, taxes and dividends to the government (in billions of ringgit), sponsors students to universities (local and abroad) and has recently set up a public university.

What else do we expect Petronas to do? Knock on our doors every month and give us a cheque? If that were the case, Petronas would only lasts for three months. After that finish-lah. By the way, Shell and Esso also make profits from Malaysia. Why not ask them to disclose their true figures too?

As for the letter Petronas must be boycotted for fuel hike , this is a ridiculous suggestion. Since when did Petronas decide on fuel prices? But the again, go ahead, boycott all of Petronas' products. Eventually all of its 23,000 employees will be jobless (mostly Malaysians). And just buy petrol from Shell, Esso and BP. Let them make a profit and send back the money to the US and UK.

As for Petronas' private jet , yes, it does have one. It belongs to Petronas, the organisation and not to any one individual. It is for the use of Petronas' top executives for official business only and sometimes for top government officials.

Why does Petronas have its own plane? Imagine the CEO of Petronas having to travel to New York to promote Petronas bond issues to potential buyers. Do you expect him to queue at the airport, be subjected to flight delays and airport transfers?

If he arrives in New York on a normal flight (assuming he does arrive on time) people may ask, 'Is this the CEO of the billion-dollar company who wants to sell bonds to us?'

It's about selling your image. Who would believe you are a CEO of an oil company if you arrive with AirAsia?
