It is unfortunate that HL Too agreed with what I wrote but then stated, "People like Stefan Hu should not use their religion to impose their morals and prejudices on others as well. People who are arrogant enough to speak on behalf of God frightens me more than all the homosexuals in the world."
If the expression of one's beliefs tantamounts to imposition, then whither intelligent debate. Those unfair comments spoiled his otherwise balanced letter, for I gave no cause for anyone to think I was trying to impose my ideas on anyone, nor am I prejudiced against homosexuals.
If people can't tell the difference between the expression of an idea and the imposition of one, it speaks something of their intellect.
HL Too's belief too that quoting Biblical verses to support one's arguments is being "arrogant enough to speak on behalf of God" shows a lack of understanding of religion and his own prejudice.
This ploy of unfairly labeling those who speak out against society's sins from a religious perspective is as bad as those who falsely accuse opponents of the homosexual lifestyle as "homophobes."
Shooting the messenger appears to be the favourite method of those who are bereft of sound arguments.
The purpose of my letter was not to be dogmatic but to countervail the arguments for homosexuality with sound biblical teaching. Malaysiakini had publicised the outing of a prominent Malaysian homosexual and the report portrayed the significant role of a Christian pastor in this person's life.
I don't doubt their sincerity but people can be sincerely wrong.
The report falsely gave the impression that Christianity condoned homosexuality, which it does not. It is onerous upon any Christian who is concerned about his or her faith being misrepresented to correct the error, which was what I did in my letter.
The truth is there were homosexuals who turned to Christ and received forgiveness for their perversions, and who did not continue in their homosexual ways almost two thousand years ago.
The malaysiakini report however gave readers the wrong impression that it is okay to be an active homosexual and a Christian, and this because of the endorsement of a Christian pastor.
The Apostle Paul made this clear when he wrote: "Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived: Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God." 1 Corinthians 6:9,10 .
"And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God." 1 Corinthians 6:11 .
If homosexuals repent and turn to Christ and forsake their perverted sexual lifestyles they too will be saved. There is no difference between a sexually sinning hetereosexual or homosexual.
The prejudice against religion these days is incredible.
It is almost impossible to support an argument from a religious perspective without being accused of being a fanatic or "imposing one's views on others" while others, even fools, may speak their minds freely in the name of free speech.
The fact is many are against homosexuality not from a religious but nature's standpoint. Homosexuality threatens the survival of the human race. Same sex couples cannot procreate. The anus is not a natural sex organ and creates health problems for those who engage in sodomy. It affects hetereosexuals too.
But because the Bible condemns homosexuality does not give people the right to ill-treat or discriminate against homosexuals. Many homosexuals, like hetereosexuals, need help and the Bible offers that help, but while God may love the sinner, he hates the sin.
The above are not my arrogant opinions but a regurgitation of sound Bible teaching. I have said nothing original and can't be held liable. If readers and HL Too find what I have quoted from the Bible against homosexuality offensive or unfair, they should complain to God.
