  • I read with interest the letter by The Sweet Leaf entitled Let Lina Joy get her own way.

I am also a Malay Muslim and I also agree with what The Sweet Leaf wrote. I would like to add that the beauty of Islam is not shown by its practice in Malaysia.

The failure of portraying the true image of Islam rests with the present government which is afraid of losing political mileage to another rather extreme Islamic political party.

Lina Joy is somehow condemned as a 'murtad' (apostate) which is punishable in this country. A stark contrast to Indonesia where one can convert to another religion or vice-versa without restriction.

My point here is if one cannot find the beauty of Islam then why stop them from going away? More so if this resulted from the failure of the narrow Islamic practices in Malaysia and the failure of the present government to evaluate the situation.

Don't blame Lina Joy. Blame yourself.
