I refer to the letter Dr M has no right to moral high ground and feel that the writer has hit the nail right on the head on the issue raised. I want to add here that it is not only Dr M who practised such selective international policies and worldview, but that the present Abdullah administration is also guilty of the same thing.

We will see the government of a supposedly mult racial country rushing to send aid and assistance to Muslim nations stricken by natural disasters but when similar catastrophes occur elsewhere in a non-Muslim nation, we will hear nothing from the government. We always hear propaganda saying that our country gives assistance without looking at race, colour or religious leanings but the truth of the matter is that they will only help Muslim countries.

When the Asian tsunami occurred in December 2004, the government rushed aid to Aceh and Mercy Malaysia even flew in missions to help. Now don't get me wrong here, I am not for a moment saying that we shouldn't help the tsunami victims in Aceh.

They deserved all the help rendered but the point I am trying to make here is that will our government be so generous and kind hearted to disaster victims of other faiths? The tsunami also devastated huge parts of mainly Hindu India and Buddhist Sri Lanka but did we hear of the government pouring aid to help these countries? The simple answer is 'no'.

In contrast, as mentioned in Anti-Genocide's letter, the Americans were one of the first to arrive in Aceh to help the tsunami victims. Isn't this ironic? Our government who likes to condemn the Americans as oppressing Muslims but in the end it is the Americans who helped out the Muslims in Aceh.

There is another particular example of the highly selective international policy practised by our government. The recent controversy in Jerusalem over the Al-Aqsa mosque also reveals the double standard policy of our government. By all means go ahead and make an international protest if the Malaysian government and Muslims feel that the Israelis are desecrating their holy site. It is the right of followers to protect their sacred grounds. But when the ancient historical Buddhist statues in Afghanistan were destroyed by the Taliban in 2001, the government of Malaysia just stood by and watched.

When the Israeli-Lebanon war in July 2006 ended, the government was adamant that they would contribute to the peacekeeping force in Lebanon. Did they show the same zeal and eagerness to contribute peacekeeping forces in non-Muslim places like Georgia and Haiti, countries who happen to need peacekeeping forces as well currently?

I have said enough. Stop selling the propaganda that Malaysia is a country for all races and religions. Hard truth is that Malaysia is only concerned about the welfare of Muslims be they bumiputera citizens of the country (the NEP and the demolition of Hindu temples come to mind, but that is a topic for another day) or Muslims in other parts of the world.

I will stick to this opinion until such time that the government is willing to extend aid in non-Muslim countries or practise a foreign policy that transcends religious inclinations.
