  • I refer to the Malaysiakini letter Seeing red over RedFM deejays. I would to advise the writer not to be oversensitive when faced with derogatory remarks about one's own religion. As a Christian, I just recently came across this verse from Proverbs 12:16 which says: "A fool shows his annoyance at once, but a man with prudence overlooks an insult'.

Based on Christian teachings as written above, Christians should not act rashly over tiny little incidents like this. People all over the world poke fun at each other's religious figures and if everyone were to react, the world would be an oversensitive society with too much politicking.

Many cartoons in the US blatantly insult every religion imaginable, but no one ever throws a fuss (except for Tom Cruise) because these are just words of expression. These are thoughts, human thoughts that can in no way shake or move our rock solid God.

And because of that, there is no need to throw a tantrum just because someone made fun of the Pope's song list. If we just ignore these degrading remarks, we will show our maturity and calmness to the world. On the other hand, if we kick up a big fuss to whatever comment we hear, we will laughed at by society as being oversensitive and unsure of our faith. Remember, be a man with prudence.
