I refer to the Malaysiakini report DAP-PKR seat talks: Perak, Sarawak the remaining obstacles .

I have written before to express my disappointment at PKR state liaison committee chairman Dominique Ng insisting that PKR is willing to face three-cornered fights and warning that if PKR-DAP cannot compromise and if indeed there are three-cornered fights, I, my family and friends whom the opposition does not seem to respect, will accordingly vote for BN for the first time in our lives.

Therefore, we are very, very glad to hear that Anwar Ibrahim and Lim Guan Eng are directly involved in the seat allocation negotiations. I would also like to remind Sarawak DAP that even though DAP has been contesting all the Chinese-majority seats all this while, they have not done very well except in the recent state elections. This was because of the Chinese community’s anger at the Sarawak BN government over land lease expiry issue.

Though I voted for DAP’s Voon Lee Shan in the state elections, it did not mean that I thought Voon had been such a great state assemblyperson. It was merely to deny BN a state seat. Therefore, I urge DAP Sarawak to respect Sarawak voters and compromise on one or two seats. Only by them working with another opposition party such as PKR will they achieve the objective of getting more opposition members into Parliament.

Allow me to quote blogger Raja Petra Kamruddin: ‘The opposition is arrogant. The opposition has a large ego. They think we need them so they can do what they like. It is time they learned that we do not need them but it is they who need us. We will soon launch a campaign called ‘One Opposition or No Opposition.

‘The civil society movements and NGOs will soon launch a ‘Peoples' Declaration’ or ‘Deklarasi Rakyat’. If the ruling party accepts this declaration we shall support them. Whomsoever accepts it, we shall support them, never mind which party they are from.

It is time we took back the streets. It is time we took back the ballot box. It is time the ‘wakil rakyat’ learns the meaning of ‘wakil rakyat’. It means we are in charge and they are merely our ‘wakil’.

DAP, PKR, please be reminded accordingly.
