I refer to the Borneo Post news report dated Dec 19. PKR state liaison committee chairman Dominique Ng announced that PKR wants to contest in at least three Chinese-majority constituencies in the coming parliamentary elections. The three seats are Miri, Sibu and Kuching.

I am extremely distressed to learn of PKR’s ambitious and foolhardy plan to contest for these three seats. I am further enraged to hear of his insistence that PKR will contest even if it means three-corner fights. How selfish and arrogant!

People in Sarawak know that Ng left the DAP years ago after he wasn't given a seat to contest. Later he joined the newly-formed state PKR and is now its state liaison committee chairman. Has Ng forgotten how he managed to wrest the Padungan state seat in Kuching from BN? It was mainly due to the fact that DAP agreed to let him have a straight fight with BN's Lily Yong.

The news report quoted Ng as saying he "was confident of winning the Bandar Kuching seat, saying that he had the backing of Sarawak United People's Party (SUPP) supporters and members...".

For the information of PKR chief Wan Azizah, de facto head Anwar Ibrahim and all PKR bigwigs in KL, who seem to have utmost belief in Ng’s confidence, the Bandar Kuching seat is held by DAP's Chong Chieng Jen. BN, through SUPP, is nominating their popular Youth chief Alan Sim to contest in Bandar Kuching against DAP's Chong. Almost every day we see two to three photos of Alan Sim splattered in the local press.

Does Ng, Wan Azizah and Anwar so naively believe that SUPP supporters will betray Sim who has been working just as hard as Ng? Do you so naively believe that in a three-corner fight between Ng, Chong and Sim, Ng will win? Even if he does, so what? Bandar Kuching is Chong's domain. He is the incumbent. Why are the PKR boys unethically gatecrashing? The same goes for the Miri and Sibu seats.

Amidst all this grand planning, does the PKR ever respect their voters? My friends, family and I having been voting against the BN for the past five elections. The only time the opposition has won was when there were straight fights. With all the gerrymandering by the BN government, you guys should surely know better!

When I read about the bickering between DAP and PKR in August, I wrote to Malaysiakini to plead with both parties not to disappoint voters by creating three-corner fights in constituencies where the opposition has a chance at winning. These are usually the Chinese-majority constituencies.

It seems that politicians are not respectful of their voters. We are warning all of you. If there are three-corner fights in my constituency, for the first time in our lives, my family and I will be voting for Sim of BN. All this while, we voted opposition despite knowing that Sim, being in the government, can do a whole lot more to develop our constituency.

You forget that in these urban constituencies, opposition voters are mainly voting for a voice and to reduce BN's majority in Parliament. So don't be disrespectful of your voters and don't make us bitter.

I hope Anwar and Wan Azizah will realise that PKR does not have a big support base in Sarawak yet because it only has Ng. If you want to push forward, work on the multiracial approach. Recruit local non-Malay bumiputeras who are the majority in Sarawak and the Malay bumiputeras to venture into the semi-urban and rural constituencies. Otherwise - forgive me for being rude - just butt out of Sarawak.
