PAS-Umno talks - PAS fast losing credibility

I refer to the Malaysiakini report Should PAS be allowed to remain in Pakatan?

As I read through Karpal Singh's comments on recent PAS actions, I can't help but to agree with his point of view.

In fact, it is very discouraging to see that PAS actually held talks with Umno right after the election, not only once, but three times. It may have not been dawned on PAS that the reason for its great gain in its election result is that people detested Umno for its behaviour.

People wanted a party different from Umno and they do not want to see this party in their territories for another five years.

Yet PAS so quickly forgot that its mandate from the people comes with the responsibilities of upholding their promises. No sooner than they have won the election, they wanted to see if it is possible for them to be in the big league.

They are so quick in selling out the people's trust by negotiating for a possible coalition with Umno instead.

All along, many people - especially the Chinese - have had much reservations over PAS, they do not trust PAS because of its agenda of having a ‘truly Islamic’ country and that it has betrayed other opposition parties before.

But the people thought that this around it would be different. PAS should know where they stand for the good of the people. It is very disappointing to see that immediately after the election, their management team started to show their true colours.

Maybe they are ignorant enough to think that they can actually have a say when they join Umno.

PAS is fast losing credibility in the eyes of the rakyat. I, for one, am really disappointed by their action in so eagerly wanting to be part of the majority. PAS must bear in mind that their gain is not really a result of their own effort and their position is because the people trusted them.

The very reason of them able to rule Kedah, make a huge gain in Perak and have a historical win in Selangor is because of their allies’ ability to persuade the people to choose them over Umno.

For many years, Malaysia has been plagued by the racial divide orchestrated by BN led by Umno. It has, in fac,t done more harm than good for the country. Only BN managed to benefit from all this as it helped them to stay in power.

Has it not occurred to PAS that the people in the country are living in an uneasy calmness? Yet, it is to my disgust that PAS eventually falls into the trap of Umno by only focusing on Malay unity.

It shows to me how narrow-minded PAS with regards to the welfare of the country. What is exactly is this Malay unity? I am very sure that Umno only intends to use this premise to split up the opposition coalition so as to be able to remain in power in a racially-divided country.

The fact that the PAS and Umno talked is enough to reveal Umno's plan. It is all about Umno and not Malaysia. Sadly PAS is now used as a pawn by Umno.

If PAS wants to remain relevant in Malaysia, it really needs to reflect on its action and have the integrity intact for the people who elected them. Failing this would more or less mean commiting political suicide.

Will the people trust PAS any more should PAS continue with its present agenda? I am not sure about others but I for one will never ever trust them again.
