The fate of the 64, including 10 opposition members and assemblypersons, arrested on May 7 is still in limbo.

While their bail was not extended today, police tell the 64 who were arrested outside the Perak state secretariat that investigations have not been suspended.

However, police investigations are ongoing and they have sought the advice of the Attorney-General's Chambers on the matter.

Among the notable figures who were not present at the Ipoh district police headquarters this morning were PAS Youth chief Salahuddin Ayub, Sungai Siput MP D Jeyakumar and PKR Wanita chief and Ampang MP Zuraida Kamaruddin

The press were barred from entering the police station.

There was a 10 minutes stand-off inside the police station before Ipoh CID chief S Glenn Anthony announced that they were free to go home as their police bail was not going to be extended.

The crowd left the police station at 10.20am and made their way back to the DAP headquarters where Nizar gave a short press conference.

'Waste of time and money'

"The police are continuing their investigations and will ask the advice of the AG's Chambers on the course of action to be taken," Nizar said.

"This shows that the police may not have a case against our supporters as nothing illegal was done by them," he said.

PKR information chief and Batu MP Tian Chua, who was also present to give moral support, said, "This is a total waste of public funds, waste of our money (those summoned) and man-hours."

DAP Ipoh Barat MP M Kulasegaran was one of the Pakatan Rakyat lawyers who accompanied those summoned to the police station.

It does not make sense to summon those who have to come from as far as Pahang, Penang, Malacca and Negri Sembilan to the police station just to be told by the police to go home until further notice," he said.

"I call on the attorney-general to free all 64 and settle the case once and for all," he added.
