Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing should resign as the Barisan Nasional Backbencher's Club (BN BBC) chairman in order to protect the integrity of parliament.

DAP's Petaling Jaya Utara member of parliament Tony Pua said it was only proper that Tiong resigns in light of the findings of the Port Klang Free Zone (PKFZ) special task force.

tiong king sing The findings revealed irregularities in claims made by Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd (KDSB), which is owned by Tiong ( right ), to the tune of between RM500 million and RM1 billion.

"The BN BBC will have no credibility whatsoever if (they are) led by a person embroiled in a controversy involving billions of the rakyat's money," said Pua in his blog posting.

While approving the task force's decision to start legal proceedings to recover the RM1 billion, KDSB's directors, management and officers must not be let off the hook, said Pua ( left ).

tony pua "The size and scale of this swindle could only have been pulled off with the complicity of insiders, the ‘close one eye' syndrome of some, and criminal negligence by others.

Malaysians are dumbfounded. Nearly 30% of the RM3.522 billion contract with KDSB is found to be either over-charged, unsubstantiated or even possibly fraudulent," he said.

Kong Choy accountable as well

Pua held former MCA deputy president Chan Kong Choy responsible for the fiasco and expects transport minister Ong Tee Keat to table the report to the parliamentary public accounts committee.

The committee is expected to meet to discuss the PKFZ scandal today at 11am.

"Sheer negligence and incompetence has created the RM12.5 billion scandal and we give full backing to the special task force to act against those responsible," said Pua.

The special task force was set up in June to investigate Port Klang Authority (PKA) and PKFZ, following the release of a report by PricewaterhouseCoopers.
