'It's appalling that the ruling BN coalition had only 63 of its 137 members in the Parliament when a highly important bill was being debated and put to vote.'
Tapah MP saves the day for BN
Wira: It is most unfortunate that the opposition did not get 80 percent attendance to defeat the bill. Any defeat of a fiscal bill in the tradition of the Westminister model basically means a motion of no confidence.
This would certainly be a major embarrassment to the BN government with respect to their representatives' lack of interest in the legislative process, particularly in the British Commonwealth.
Code 10: Lucky for them (BN), otherwise the nation's cabinet and the whole BN machinery will be talk of the town. The Malaysian Book of Records should tabulate this incident in their annals. This is the work ethics and culture of our system, and sad to say, BN is sailing towards troubled waters.
Yuvan: It's appalling that the ruling BN coalition had only 63 of its 137 members in the Parliament when a highly important bill (Budget 2010) was being debated and put to vote.
Pakatan had 63 of its 81 members in Parliament at the same time. BN's attendance was less than 50 percent whereas Pakatan's was about 78 percent!
Now, tell me who is more serious and more concerned about the country's affairs? M Saravanan rushing into the Parliament late in the night and casting a last-minute vote for BN is not some kind of big achievement for BN. It's a real shame to the BN government.
Chee Hoe Siew: So our MPs voted for the bill without sitting in to understand what it is about? Wow! He does not even bother if the bill is good or harmful to the people as long as BN having it pass through! If I am a member of his constituency, I would not want to take the same risk next time.
Argonist: This of course is a forewarning to BN that the future of BN is a matter of being able to scrape through the elections. Only last-minute party hoppers can save the BN in the next elections.
The non-BN parties have a gigantic task in convincing the people of Malaysia to actually throw out a large majority of BN politicians in the next elections. If you do then Malaysia is saved for another day. If you can't, then Malaysians deserve whatever they get from the years of BN rule!
Liow leads 13 to quit CC
Judge Doe: I think the president and the rest of the central committee should just accept their resignations and move on. I am sure replacements can be appointed or co-opted until the next election is due.
I cannot see why anybody should resign with a proviso just to call for a re-election. Enough is enough, the MCA must not allow these guys/gals to think that they're bigger than the party.
Soapbox: I'm sure that the MCA constitution allows the president to appoint members to the CC to fill temporary vacancies. This, therefore is a golden opportunity for OTK (Ong Tee Keat) to appoint team players and finish off his work on the PKFZ issue, and also to reform MCA into a party that serves its members!
Amaso: Conditional resignation? First time I ever heard this in my life. If you want to resign, resign and get lost. Why lay condition? Liow and his gang are actually not resigning. Obviously, he is fearful of being betrayed and this would cost him to lose his health minister's post.
What about the recently reinstated Dr Chua Soi Lek who strongly supported fresh elections when he was sacked from MCA? When stakes are high, circumstances turn innocent sheeps into cunning wolves. Hongkong TV drama series are no match to the MCA turmoil!
Legal immunity for MACC officers to remain
Kgan: Why should MACC officers be immune? If they have done nothing wrong they should not fear legal action. This immunity is just a blanket protection for them to commit all manners of abuses and go scot-free.
Don't tell me about conditional immunity which can be subjectively applied. There should be no escape hatch for the wrongdoers.
Malaysian for Malaysia: Why should anyone be immune from the law? The law is the law. If they could take away immunity from the royalty (and deservingly so as there have been definite criminal actions by certain members of royal families), why do they now give immunity to a bunch of civil servants?
Everyone should be equal before the law and obey the law. Enough of double standards.
Ezilan: The legal immunity is grossly abused by unscrupulous MACC 'gangsters' to bully, maim and even kill and run away from the law like cowards.
Shameless acts of cowardice and no responsibility nor accountability from so-called officers - this only reflects an unprincipled leadership of the people.
Rosmah has no time to entertain 'wild allegations'
Thinking aloud: The only people who are discounting this issue is you, your husband and your husband's brother. The whole of Malaysia is saying this is damaging our integrity as nation.
Use the proper means available to bring the people responsible for it to court. What is so difficult about this unless of course you and your husband have a mountain to hide. Hide this today, but it will show up in due time. The choice is yours.
